Lastly an AVCHD Camcorder worth buying
I had the reward-winning HDV (tape-based) HV20 prior to this, and the HF10 is almost indistinguishable in terms of image quality. Prone the dramatic difference in image data between an HDV image and an AVC image, that means this is one heck of a camcorder. I have tried out other AVC camcorders and have been genuinely disappointed. Not so here, and I purchased this one. It has 24p and 30p recording, in addition to 60i. (Don't be confused by Canon's nomenclature, it is exactly 24p, just recorded in interlaced 60i.) The cinema mode has a bit of a wash-out effect on colors. The camcorder is surprisingly mignonne. Power save mode is great, and is virtually instantaneously on when the LCD screen is opened. One foretoken about AVC in general, if you don't have a fast computer, it will grind it to a halt. I have a quad-core with 4 gig RAM and editing is fine, but I wouldn't destitution to use an old computer. Sony Vegas works great with the files. Wish the camcorder automatically saved to the SDHC...
How to sense video into iMovie on the Mac
This is a marvelous camcorder. Rather than replica what some of the other reviews have mentioned, I thought I'd explain how to import video on the Mac, because it wasn't obvious to me. First, you must have an Intel based Mac meet Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). You also need iMovie '08, which comes with new Macs. If you're running an older variety of Mac OS X (such as Tiger) or have an older version of iMovie, or have a PowerPC based Mac, you won't be able to import video from this camera. To imply video, attach the camcorder to the Mac with the USB cable that's included with the camcorder. Make sure you plug your camcorder into AC power, tournament from the battery won't work. Set the mode dial on the camera to video playback (the little dejected camcorder icon). Turn on the camcorder. Now open the LCD display on the camcorder, and you'll see it's asking you a question: use the joystick to choose "computer" for where you're connecting the USB wire. I spent some time the first time I...
Very delightfully camera. Be aware of AVCHD limitations.
This is a odd camera but people need to have more realistic expectations of what to expect from AVCHD. It is a highly crushed format so using this camera in low-light conditions is going to produce pretty "grainy" results. In integrity lighting AVCHD output from this camera can produce some really great looking results in HD but don't kid yourself into meditative you're going to get professional HDTV quality. This is a point-and-shoot.I love the camera, strikingly how fast it focuses in good light, so I'm going to concentrate on what some of the other reviewers said to right some misconceptions.I use both Macs and PC and I have to tell you that you that PCs suck for AVCHD - you will waste a lot of time and pull your skin of one's teeth out. I'm sure PC video software vendors will address this eventually, but seriously folks if you fancy to do this the easy way get an Intel-based Mac (caveat: only Intel based machines using Leopard confirm AVCHD) and use either iMovie or...

    Beyond my expectations
Since I was a negligible kid with an 8mm film camera, I have tried in vain to make videos that had the look and sound of talented TV and movie productions.I failed in many ways, many times. Sometimes due to my meager skills, sometimes due to the short comings of my cameras. The Vixia HF G10 changes that. I can no longer reproach my equipment.Let me say now, I am not a professional video/film maker. I have had no formal training. My videos are for my own satisfaction, I record special moments and travels for myself and my family. I seldom display or publish videos on the Web.I placed my tidiness on Jan. 5th, the day of Canon's new product announcement. Amazon was great, as usual, and kept my pre-order updated until the camera was released. I received it last week, and was instanter struck by the quality of the images. So far, I have just been learning about the G10, and its features. I've made some stunning video studies of my bloom and...
    Fully Outstanding!
Let me first start out by saying, I from the start wasn't going to spend so much on a new camcorder. I had bought the Canon HF 100 a few years ago, and was fairly in seventh heaven with it. It was nice, but definitely had its drawbacks. So, I started researching Canon's new line for 2011 and was torn between the M40 and G10. Having the new CMOS Pro sensor was a must. Everything I infer from about the low light capabilities sold me. Basically Canon went with a smaller pixel compute (exactly 1920 x 1080), which in turn makes the pixels larger and better in low assault shooting. I originally bought the M40 and was very happy with it, but started to realize it wasn't fitting all my wishes. That went back, and I went with the G10. I have not looked back since!People might wonder what the biggest difference is between the two, and the big ones in my point of view are the manual lens control, wide angle lens (makes a HUGE conversion in my opinion), larger LCD (3.5 in. vs. 3 in.), color viewfinder, and...
    Exceedingly happy with my purchase
I hypothesis I was one of the lucky few who was able to get this camera early. I got mine 2 weeks ago and have been nothing but impressed with it. Right out of the box and in a medium lit local room the picture was superb. I got a chance to take it out in the field for a bit and am extremely happy with it. Full manual control, a cynosure clear ring, an awesome and absolutely beautiful touch screen, what more could you ask for?I especially appreciate the dual SD use strategy act openly slots and the recording options there. There are certainly going to be times where you'll want to record to 2 cards at once and that will be in print in handy. But the ability to also record to the internal memory and then copy the contents to one of the SD cards in the postal card slots is also a great option. The other things that are not mentioned in a lot of the bullet points for this camera that I am impressed with categorize the waveform monitor and peaking meters which come in handy for the manual exposure and sharply defined unclear...

    A unwavering no-brainer camera!
Here's an up, non-techy person's review of this wonderful new camera!I opened the box, figured out how to charge the freestyle (no charger just an adaptor that plugs into the camera), let it sit an hour or so and then started it up. What a breeze! The perfect quality on the lowest setting is awesome.....turned it up all the way and WOW! I can't believe what this thing picks up! Picayune blades of grass in our backyard just pop onto the screen now! The best part is the Wi-fi capabilities. I literally touched a few buttons (following the PDF manual that came with the camera) and my videos transfered wirelessly to my computer. Oh...my...gosh! So easy! Now we need to update our t.v. so we can wirelessly notice of our home videos on it, too!The camera is smaller than I expected but then again we've been using our old Panasonic mini-DVD recorder which is entirely a bit bigger. At first I thought it was too small...but after about 5 minutes I got used to the feel of...

Flawless Camcorder, but battery life is a joke
I purchased this Camcorder on the day it came out and had lofty expectations. I had a number of Canon camcorders before and I really like their picture quality. However, when I acclimatized this one for the first time, I run out of battery after 20 minutes and had only about 12 minutes worth of footage. For a consumer effect in this day and age, this is completely unacceptable. Also, the included software does not work on a Mac...
    Saintly camera
Got this Camcorder from my pre-organize today, and like it so far, here are some of the things I have noticed so far.Very small and light, similar to previous years models, I am using a Outstrip 32GB class 10 card, which works just fine for it.I plugged it in and can confirm that it takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to fully instruct (my battery was completely dead when received)Battery life is almost non-existent... I was surprised to impute to in the owner manual that when recording in FXP 1920x1080 mode that you could expect only about 25 minutes of mobile life... I record in the slightly higher MXP mode and can also confirm that this is a pretty painstaking guestimate as I have recorded around 10 - 15 minutes, and my battery indicator shows that it is at 50%, so more than one mobile, or an extended battery will quickly become a must! Also as the previous reviewer mentioned, the current title that amazon gives this camcorder "...with Dual SDXC Postcard...
    Mobile life is non-existent
Bought this camera as it was this years style of the Vixia R200 camera. The camera is fantastic! Image quality is great for the videos. You can download and way of thinking the videos on a mac computer, on the ps3, great. But then Canon, a brand that I really like, disappointed me completely with a mobile that lasts 30 minutes tops!!! And the bigger replacement battery is 100+ dollars and I have no way of conclusion out if that one will last any longer.I'm returning mine and will probably buy the R20 now. Which seems to have a longer battery life but I'll need to buy an extra one to get through the day anyway. Maybe I'll go with a special brand, still undecided.Edit:Fond some links at Canon's webpage that give insight in battery-operated performances. All three possible batteries.(...)This one shows how long it takes to charge them. 7,5 Hours for the BP-727 on the camera!!! 7,5 hours!!(...)

    Best for my needs!
I received the Vixia HF M500 camcorder yesterday and am so far very glad with my purchase. I'll try to keep this review relatively short.Overall the camera is very simple to use. The menu pilotage is rather intuitive. You can hit the home button on the inside panel to bring up selections for a number of high-level settings. General camera settings and functions are all accessed from here. On the touchscreen, depending on how the camera is set up, you will see other options close by. For instance, choosing the "cinema mode" brings up filter selections on the main guard which you simply scroll through to select. Very easy to use!The included software isn't much, Pixela Transfer Utility. I can't gripe, it gets the job of transferring files from the camera to the PC done. For reference I'm using Windows 7 and had no problems with installing the software or getting files to responsibility.Pros:Video Quality - Excellent for a camera in the sub...
    Fine fantastic cam
By the skin of one's teeth got the camera today so I thought I'd jot down some initial impressions. The build quality is good, pricey black with chrome. I bought an extra battery and noticed it wiggled slightly but no big lot. The cam is definitely light. The touch screen has a nice sensitivity to it. Had to turn up the brightness to get it to calling okay under bright light. The menu system will take a little time to get used to. It's not the sort of system you can can well-founded goof around with all the options and figure it out. If you know what functions your looking for you'll have to spend a little interval in the manual figuring it out.Naturally, everyone would be wondering about the image quality. The video quality is very goodness. I took a little video of a friend of mine doing yard work in fairly hefty daylight. I noticed that the lens is quite sharp, rendering lots of detail. Color is information. Image is perhaps just a tad overexposed but I was throwing it into a tough...
    Usefulness It
I upgraded from a Samsung MX-100...I only use a camcorder then to capture candid moments and family events. So far...completely impressed. I originally was wealthy to get the R300 for $350, but once I found out that Canon ships that camera with the smallest of its 3 batteries (BP-709, BP-718, BP-727) and that other users were getting about 20-30 minutes of video recording with the BP-709, I knew I would have to position a second battery. The medium size battery (BP-718) was $75 and the large battery-operated (BP-727) was $110.Factor a second battery into the equation and your price point is no longer $350, but about $450.Assumed that the M500 comes with the medium size battery (BP-718), for an extra $100 it was a no brainer to upgrade from the R300 to the M500. I get incredibly stirring low light performance (the video, at least for someone who just wants to capture occasional indoor scenes, is 1000% usable...very low hullabaloo and grain and the colors are true); I get a...

Testify to details with other sites
The camera itself is giant. However, as of this writing, the description is inaccurate. It says "dual sdxc card slots" when there is only one. In augmentation, it says "Built-in Wi-Fi for wireless video transfer to a PC or online sharing sites likes YouTube and Facebook" implying you can use the Wi-Fi to upload to Facebook or YouTube. That is not credible, you must use the PC software to do the upload. You can wirelessly transfer to the computer, but you cannot make direct connections to the online sites. If you have a Mac, you are out of success rate.
Freestyle pack scam! Cheated LvL: Over 9000!
Battery-operated pack scam!!!!!! that`s the first thing a have to say. The battery last hardly 20 minutes, Seldom, I tested it, so that limits you a lot!!! I went to see the price of the batteries that this model uses and they`re almost 100 dollars each!! Unqualifiedly?!. I try buying the Wassabi batteries that EVERYONE uses for the Canon camera models because they are way cheaper, and surmise what? This new model is not compatible with those battery packs, casualty??? I don't think so.The camera is significant by the way, the image is incredible, but is useless if you're condemn to use a "hardly" 20 minutes battery haversack, what am I going to record? Words? I guess I'll have to buy at least 2 more original Canon batteries to make "seldom" an hour of outdoor footage...oh wait!... i guess that was Canon's master method all along.Cheated LvL: Over 9000!

DSLR cameras vs. HD camcorders for the Dance Filmmaker

The gods of technology have legitimate us to take a still camera and use its outrageous-end lens and magnificent frivolous depth of field to press videos that challenge the look of big budget films. The leading gain of using a DSLR over a camcorder is the idle depth of field. When filmmakers talk about depth of field, they are referring to the amount of the epitome in set up that is in target at any one nonetheless. When the depth of field is knowledgeable, everything in construction is in indistinct, and it is very troublesome for the filmmaker to highlight the parts of the at once that are weighty to the gest....
