    Righteous what I needed!
Could not be more delighted with this item! It definitely is "low noise", I can't hear any at all, even with the volume cranked. Small, light importance, portable, high quality...just what I needed. It supplies phantom power, even 12V, which works complete for my Audio Technica mics, so I can conserve battery. I use it with my Canon T2i running Magic Lantern (to turn off to cameras very noisy AGC). This preamp/mixer is a perfect compliment. And what's better, on their website, there's a commodities load of really informative videos that helped me make my decision in not only buying this upshot, but mics and other things as well. Totally worth it!
    Balked!!
This segment came to me not working. Also, the cx231 in my opinion is not worth the price. The exterior is rather cheaply built.
precisely what I need, exelent device
I own a sony hdr-fx7, and the hale and hearty on my projects was terrible, it was rumble I had to decide to get a better camera or try apreamp, I just try this and works marvellous

Flourishing from an HV30 to an XA10
Even potential from the prosumer Canon HV30 camcorder, the professional XA10 is a huge improvement. The camera is easy to hold, the buttons are all in effects locations, and the camera just feels easy to use. Compared to some other HD camcorders I used in videotape school, the XA10 feels much easier to control. The difference is even more dramatic comparing it to my old HV30 rig. It's much nicer to not have the other awkwardness of a battery-powered XLR adapter. Honestly, the XA10 must look much more professional to clients as well.Statue quality is simply stunning. There is a slight look of shallow depth of field that is very pleasing to the eye. It's fine, but noticeable. I've heard it has something to do with the 8-blade iris, but I won't pretend to know what that really means. All I certain is the video quality is the best I've personally ever held in my hands. The XA10 also gives much greater oversight over the image than the more consumer-focused HV20 and...

The secure:I'm a backpack videographer. I shoot a lot of industrial and training videos. I grew weary of maddening to find an easy way to get great audio from a DSLR - too many additional and unnecessary steps -- so I sold mine and picked this up. Superlative. Move. Ever. Now, I put a Rode NT3 on a boom, plug into the XLR and my audio is warm as a summer day. Video quality is brilliant. Focus assist is fantastic. I'm very pleased to get pro-level processor and lens in a camera this insignificant. Surprise: it shoots great stills too. Very very good in lower light scenarios.Down sides:The show mode feels sort of amateurish/consumer level. Not much there you couldn't do better in standard, so, I don't use it. My only other complaint is I wish there were a few other on camera buttons to reduce menu diving, but it's really not hard-boiled.
Wondrous camera but not for everyone
OVERVIEWThere is no misgiving that this is a great, well built camera. It is pretty much a five star item with only a few areas of improvement needed. The query you should ask yourself is whether this is the right piece of gear for you. Not only in terms of choosing between camcorders, but also whether you should get a DSLR over a Camcorder. This is something I will address under a independent paragraph below. This is not a fully professional camera because it does not meet professional / broadcast standards, which includes 4:2:2 redden spacing, 50 mps codec, and interchangeable lenses (among other things). However, for 2000 bucks, you will about very high standard material, with most people thinking it's totally pro, and that makes it a very impressive on the knuckles of equipment. While this camera is not for pros, it will be perfectly adequate for two categories of people:1) Serious cinematographers who prerequisite to haul gear on their back to film an...

    Works superior!
Reach-me-down to hook a laptop up to the sound system of an older church for my wedding. The sound quality was flagrant and the wedding went well!
I was so gratified to find this product!
I remembrances I was going to have to cobble together various cords and plugs - until I found this great product. I bought two of them, and I we use them to make light of instrument apps on the iPhone and iPad. The length is just right for using on concoct. The sound quality seems to be good. I also use it to play my iTunes music through the sound system. The right bend is very helpful if, like me, you are holding the device during use. It greatly reduces the risk of cord destruction. Excellent product.
    Does the job!
This does the job, linking a Shure mic to a Canon video camera. The 10ft in detail is just about right for most of the interviews I shoot. This is a simple product that works as expected. I can't over of anything I'd change!

Amazon.com By-product Description The AG-DVC30's Leica Dicomar 16x optical zoom lens answers a broad vary of shooting needs, delivering superb results from 39.5mm wide angle all the way to 632mm telephoto (both 35mm lens equivalents). In substantial-angle performance--critical in broadcast and other professional applications--this lens is top of its class. Behind this marvellous performance are the advanced optical technologies and expertise that have made Leica Camera AG one of the most respected names in the camera sphere.

The Leica Dicomar lens is first in its class in wide-angle performance.
This new 16x optical zoom lens system uses low-dispersion field-glasses and aspherical lenses to reduce color aberration and boost resolution. Use of a special multicoating technique dramatically reduces flare and ghosts. The result: sharp, crisp, beautifully rendered pictures with fecund colors, delicate nuances, and exceptional shading.

The advanced OIS system eliminates image befog caused by natural hand-shake.
Optical Image Stabilizer Compensates for Real Hand-Shake
The AG-DVC30's advanced Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) compensates for hand shaking that occurs as you zap. A gyrosensor detects hand-shake and sends signals to a linear motor, which adjusts the lens to reparation. Because this process takes place prior to the CCD image capture (rather than in the downstream electronic processing), it essentially eliminates any effect of hand-shake on resolution and screen angle. The OIS can also be helpful when zooming or shooting in dim lighting.

1/4-Inch, 410,000-Pixel 3CCD Idea System: High Sensitivity, Low Noise
To ensure a level of picture quality suitable for professionals, the AG-DVC30 uses a 3CCD likeness system that delivers the highest sensitivity in its class. This, combined with an RGB gamma processor that uses Panasonic's unequalled gamma-curve function, helps assure high image-quality processing. In items, the AG-DVC30's A/D converter and RGB gamma processor are the same ones used in the popular AG-DVX100A, which has won acclaim as the industry's highest-spitting image-quality DV camera.

    Movie-Simulation Mode
The AG-DVC30 can capture and reproduce images that are strikingly be like in tone to film images, thanks to Panasonic's unique Cine-Like gamma curve and a 30-frames-per-tick recording function that electronically interpolates interlaced images to create frames with no every now differences between fields. Settings for this mode are preset in the Movie-Like scene systematize.

    High-Sensitivity Slow Shutter
The slow shutter function uses tiki accumulation to allow shutter speeds with frame rates reduced by half or more. The growth method provides bright-color images with less noise than those captured using regular gain-up, so you get the higher sensitivity needed for nighttime shooting without illumination. The slow shutter aim can also be used to obtain movie-like effects.

    16:9 Widescreen Recording
The aspect correlation can be set to either 4:3 or 16:9 to accommodate wide-image recording. In 16:9 recording, you can first-class either letterbox or squeeze mode, giving you more possibilities in downstream editing and playback.

Modest, but sturdy - excellent low-light capability
This is a keen camera for the wedding videographer or other serious amateur or semi-professional. It's well built, has great guide control, and takes super video including good low-light performance. You will possibly want the external mic attachment, which lets you use professional microphones without additional adapters and timer processors. Now that the price is well below $2000, it's a great deal. One caveat: If you plan to shoot 16:9 dimensions, this is not the best choice. The Panasonic GS400 handles that much better, and at a lower price. (But the GS400 doesn't have the low-settle chops that the DVC-30 has - so you have to set your priorities.)Plusses:* Very good low light capability* Sturdy, metal firmness construction* Will take professional external microphones (with optional attachment)* Unbelievable B&W no-light competence with infrared (short range built into camera; medium range add-on IR light increases order...
A well-thought-of camera that captures great images
This is a higher-level camera for the money. Simple operation and well constructed. It has a "well built feel" to it and fits well in your management. The detail of the image is awesome, better than I hoped for. I'm very impressed with the 16x zoom, very nice and clean representative.Don't be fooled by the size of this camera, the quality of the image is beautiful. A lot of camera in a little bundle. It has 4 built in shooting settings for different situations. It has a low level light option that does a OK job of capturing the scene after dark.I gave it 4 stars because I didn't like the manual that it came with and the directions controlling for the iris and focus could have been made easier to access and use. The built in microphone does not indeed pick up the desired audio that well. I recommend picking up an external boom microphone or lapel mic system to supercede the built in mic depending on your industriousness. If you are in need of a firewire cable to...
    Egregious Camera
While the Sony vx2100 does less ill in low light, this camera holds it's own very well. For the price, it's impossible to beat. Great picture rank, 3.5 inch LCD and solid build quality. Most cameras in this range still have the plastic firmness, but the magnesium alloy body on the AG-DVC30 is rugged and feels great. I've used it for regular kinsmen shooting and filming plays. So many choices on the manual settings. Can't say enough. Here's a great forum for it. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/f131

    Achieve Pro-Audio to Consumer Cameras
I am the co-falter of a small hyperlocal video news company. When we started the business we obviously needed to remove as much value out of our gear as possible. That meant choosing consumer equipment for most of our production workflow, including using two-dimensional Canon Vixia HD cameras over more expensive professional models.Of course good video requires moral audio, and while the Vixia has a microphone port they don't work out of the box with high quality microphones. We initially purchased precious Sennheiser wireless kits to make the connection, but those ended up costing more than the camera did! Inscribe the Beachtek box. This little device, paired up with a , delivers exceptional audio for less than $300. The undisturbed is clean, crisp, and best of all very easy...
Very winsome audio addition to your video equipment.
The BeachTek DXA-2T. I by the skin of one's teeth received this wonderful little package today. So far in my initial testing, I really like this baby guy. It has 2 balanced XLR connectors, which means, with an XLR connector and a good mic cable, you might go as much as 1,000 ft between the microphone and the camera (though I take for granted your camera wouldn't shoot that far) It has very nice Neutrik connectors which are the best in the world. I tested it with a Shure SM57 and memories the audio was very nice. It has a switch so that you can get a single microphone to come into your camera as both left and to be honest channel. It's balanced very well, and my Canon GL-2 had no problem standing on a table with the DXA-2T under it. Overall, my initial issue is that this is a VERY nice piece of gear. There is no phantom power, so you would need another add on piece if you wanted to use a condenser microphone.
Capital Sound Solution for Interviews, Sturdy Construction
I use this adapter with a Panasonic HDC-TM700K for interviews and have been outrageously pleased with its performance. One input is for the stick mic handled by the interviewer and the second input is for a lavalier mic on the subject. This adapter gives me bizarre flexibility for a wide range of voices. For interview situations, it's perfect for my needs.

With greatest satisfaction camera for the price!!
It was a crave wait but finally got it last week and then took it for a trip right away, its performance it's due, I got this camera for a TV show we are producing, after seeing a few options we decided to get this one because of several reasons:- Size, the camera is very tight, for a camera that provides broadcast quality image the size is amazingly small.- House, this camera has most of its body made out with metal panels, that makes it very solid and also makes it reliable, also the set up of the buttons are serenely to access.- Price, there are other models in the market that could deliver a similar quality or probably a smidgin better but the cost is at least $1k more, if you think like I do "creativity is the main ingredient for a good performance", spending the extra cash doesn't really make a difference as long as you are hep of the camera's capabilities and limitations, but there is always ways to improve performance in some conditions that...
Poise of power has officially shifted to AVCHD
I honourable met this camera last week, little brother to the HMC150. The HMC40 brings several welcome upgrades to merchandise. I'm an intermediate producer in training with lots of self study and attended a few great workshops. After two years of shooting 1920 HD on the low end I have to say this camera impressed me.PROS:1) MPEG-4. Shoots very orderly quality in a tiny light weight package. Just love it. Even has time-hold-up capability which sure beats roto-ing in post for a time lapse effect.2) You can doxy press two HMC40s in the same size carryon pelican case as the 150.3) Start editing your shots on Mac in only 2-3 minutes without waiting for picture. No transcoding required, no $600 P2 cards either. But you should use something faster than just class 6 SDHC media if you necessity to bump up the quality a little, otherwise you might get some artifacts (image problems) with fast motion and streaked clothing. Same problem as any media recording slower than the camera...
    Talented!!!
This camera deserves "6 Stars" on likeness quality. I am a Realist when it comes to reviewing a product. First: we must consider the items price, $1995.00. In the "Educated Video Camera World", That is tantamount to saying a steal!!! I will not go into features and functions, the type of this Camera is given in detail on the product description portion of this page.Second: Size and slant, Until very recently, a Pro Video Camera came in two sizes, large and super large. The new problem here is that the general public became used to seeing these monstrosities at events, and broadcasts. Many Video Camera Professionals still look for these monstrosities entirely to appease their clients visual expectations. This is the wrong approach, we should stop breaking our backs with our kit, and instead educate the public of the technological advances that have benefited this industry. The video dignity produced by this camera will please the most discriminating...

Could not be more contented with this memorandum. It unequivocally is "low babel", I can't consider any at all, even with the book cranked. It supplies phantasm power, even 12V, which works improve for my Audio Technica mics, so I can take care of battery-operated. I use it with my Canon T2i unceasing Allurement Lantern (to disengage to cameras very clarion AGC). And what's greater, on their website, there's a business heap of undeniably edifying videos that helped me see my decidedness in not only buying this output, but mics and other things as well.

    Your Questions

What are XLR inputs for a camcorder and how are they different/better than regular inputs?

XLR inputs are for the ally of high spec external microphones - apart from their shape the only other difference is that they care for power to the external microphone as well as being electrically configured to accept the high smooth out mike input.

What's a (relatively) cheap shotgun mic that works with a basic A/V input on a camcorder?

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camera. No XLR input. I don't have the change to get a converter and and XLR-capable shotgun mic. I have around $140 I'm able to spend on this. The Azden SGM-X mic looks like what I extremity, but I'm unclear on whether

Since there are no consumer camcorders under about $1,800 with an XLR mic connector, this is no astonishment - most consumer camcorders have no mic jack at all - and when they do, it is a 1/8" stereo mic jack.

any recommendation for a good used sub $100 digital camcorder with external mini-jack or XLR microphone input?

I am looking for a Euphemistic pre-owned camcorder that can be hooked up to a audio mixer for its sound input.
it should be able to be connected to the power while recording .
and it should be clever to record live into a computer via firewire

If the solid recording is going to be on the computer, then you don't need a camcorder.

Get a capture card (ie EZcap) and feed the mixer out and a camera video to it. The camera can be a digital camera as many have composite video out.

If youve been with us for a while you may retain a leaked device that we told you about called the T-Mobile MyTouch HD. At the opportunity of the leak it was thought that this device would be a successor to the previously launched Robot powered T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. Interested on how this CF recorder compares to the Marantz PMD660. I like how much smaller it is than the PMD660 but the paucity of XLR inputs, progressive level feedback is cause for concern. We would take this out for audio reporting that would change our current fleet of MiniDisc recorders.
