A must have disintegrate of equipment for photographers.
Photography is a pre-eminent part of my job, which is processing crime scenes. My original intent was to buy this unit for shots that were hard to get with a tripod. These would cover blood spatter on a counter top or other unique circumstances. While it turned out to be great for that it also turned out to be far more functional in my personal photography than I thought. This system(with the super clamp)is so stable that it is a amazing. Do not expect to put a DSLR on this section using the flash stand legs. I can smuggle this unit into many places that a tripod can't go in my mate's purse. It is great for places like the zoo with all of those great rails to clamp on to and you don't have to worry about those kicking your tripod. The only drawback to this unit is that it did not come with a 1/4 inch stud for use with the wonderful clamp. They are however available for about $6 at numerous places on the internet. Definitely buy one to get the full potential out of this apparatus.

Can't Subsist Without It Now
I purchased this same Manfrotto Occultism Arm kit a few months ago. I have fallen in love with this and have just purchased my second kit. It is so versatile and sturdy. Once the arm is locked into station, it's not moving anywhere! Takes two hands to manipulate and set, but it is well worth the effort. With this gear, I can adjust my softboxes to any seek imaginable. I also use this to hold my D700 camera over a cubelight for macro photography. Works perfectly and saves my back from all the bending over!I could offer off a lot of my peripheral equipment and stands... but I will never get rid of these Magic Arms!
Treacherous however useful piece of equipment
This spell arm is standard part of the studio set up. However very poorly built, subject to constant failure at the locking mechanicalism. The bearing rolling system designed crushes the soft metal used to secure it. Over but the metal looses form and causes the arm to unlock or loosen. Typically the arms have a two or three year lifespan and must replaced. It helps to cut out sure the joint is very clean, grit / dirt will degrade the function.Overall full concept, bad quality.

Awful bit of kit
This is an formidable bit of kit that no photographer should be without, when coupled with a super clamp this combo can be mounted practically anywhere, excellent for off camera shimmer use.the reason why this didn't get a 4 was because the unit comes with the friction wheel disassembled, and there were no instructions for the unimpeachable assembly of the friction wheel, I was having difficulty tightening down the magic arm, when I happened to observe a bearing and two washers in the box, after these components were installed the unit functions perfectly.

Not 'Entrancing', put pretty darned cool
There are two studs on capsule joints on either end of the arm. When the knob is turned counter-clockwise, the ball joints and the center 'elbow' all untie. The loosing is gradual, so it won't suddenly collapse. Once you have it set, turn the knob clockwise and all the movable joints tighten. I was a miniature leery of hanging my DSLR in the air, but this arm locks up pretty solidly.Now I have a set point on my macro plain for mounting the camera. Since focus and view angle is so critical in macro work, my tripod is a bit of a ordeal. This makes life a whole bunch more simpler. :)The arm and clamp combo are also being used where tripods are not permitted/usable but where a solid mount point (e.g.fence post) is available.Construction is solid, fit and wrap up dispose of are excellent and the usage is intuitive.The Superclamp in the photos is not included, but unless you already have a mounting design figured out, you'll need one...

Exceptional Product with One Major Flaw
I Fianc this Magic Arm, but there's one critical design flaw that, once addressed, could make this product even more strong, charming and popular.The friction arms with the connecting knob can handle far greater weight millstone than the stated 6.61 lbs. It's the round shape spigot ends, however, that can't handle any load dimensions beyond that point. Of course it can't, as the only thing that's holding this round shape spigot ends from turning is the tightening use up one's resources which would eventually wear out at the tip or even break off. Since this Magic Arm is used primarily with the Manfrotto Super Brace or other super clamps by so many users, all Manfrotto has to do is to come up with the Magic Arm with the hexagonal end spigots for the wonderful clamp's hexagonal socket like the studs that come with the super clamp acquisition (if you do purchase with one). It's that simple. There won't be any sagging or slippage with this simple fix. The load capacity, I'm certain, can be increased look-alike...
