Purchaser Video Review Length:: 7:38 MinsIf you're looking to step into the beginnings of a authoritative level video camera, the XF100 will do the job. Among the features I like best are: 4:2:2 flush space, XLR audio inputs, and a versatile zoom lens. These are just a few, there are many more. To provide a methodical review of the XF100, I made this video, which includes an un-boxing, a look at the features, and a short, manifest test of the camera. I immediately noticed an improvement in my productions including my video blog and YouTube solid, not to mention material submitted to professional news organizations. This camera rocks!
I used up about four months comparing the Canon XF100 to the Canon 7D, and several Sony video cameras. I used mutiple lens on the Canon 7d...testing for strength of field, low light comparisons, etc. For the Indy movie we are shooting now, the Canon XF100 became the perfect realm of possibilities. Ease of use, 2-3 hours of battery use, double slots for the compact flash cards (one for congestion), great low light, the ability to continue a shot for more than 12 minutes (Canon7d), the ability to chose MF or AF, and no sine qua non to purchase all the peripherals that you need when you use a DLSR for video. If you can find this camera, its incredible and easy to use. The only flaw is the editing. If you have a 32 bit Windows platform, you will have to upgrade to a new computer for 64 bit if you plan on editing with Adobe Initial Pro, Avid, or the earlier versions of Final Cut Pro. FCPro X at this time is not set up for the Canon XF series.

Alarming for Price
Bottom policy. Its a three thousand dollar camera with 422 and 1920x1080. Makes a fantastic for twopence second camera next to my 5d. XLR imputs. Thinking about purchasing another. Its maybe too light, but that isnt inevitably a bad thing. Shoots very well in low light situations. I just shot a video in a one room day-school house with no electricity at dusk and was able to get the shots without using the infrared. Ya it was a little bit grainy, but I got the shots and I got paid. Ya you can find things to whinge about it, but its a three thousand dollar camera. Simple plug in to work with FCP7.

I've done more into on mass-marketed high-definition camcorders than any person with a job really should. After weeks of combing and taking into consideration the pros and cons of AVCHD vs. HDV, HDD vs. tape vs. flash, I decided on the HV30, since I was persuaded by arguments about and examples of video mark, especially in low-light. Got the HV30 and, indeed, the picture quality is stunning. The sound, though, was a great disappointment. Since I'm caring of capturing quiet moments - the subtle sounds of, say, my four-month-old daughter sleeping - the drugged-pitch whine of the tape motor present in my recordings with the HV30 proved to be a deal iceman. (I'm well aware of wide range of solutions to this problem, from external microphones to post-handiwork techniques, but I'd ideally like to avoid carrying around additional equipment and I only have so much time to dissipate on this hobby - I'll leave in-depth editing to those more dedicated, working towards different ends, and/or without one's own flesh...

Not positively as advertised
The mobile does work well enough for the Canon XF100 but the following there statement under product description "comes fully decoded, so it will display the extant battery life and usage time" is not correct. It will not indicate time usage as the Canon battery-operated does. Customer service was helpful, answered my emails and phone calls but in the end, I conceive of they are still under the impression the battery should show the hours. They sent me a second battery but it also did not perform the time use. For the cost, you have to be accepting of this limitation. I would only ask that they fix the problem or remove the incorrect description.

Giant battery, Great price
I have been told that this battery-operated will not show the remaining battery level on the XF100. BUT I have other Blue Nook - wasabi batteries for other cameras and lights (sony vx2100, canon xa10 and hdv-z96 video sunlight) and they work as great as they are priced so I thought since I needed another battery that I would buy one and see for myself.I received this battery today (Sat, June 25, 11) and after charging it, it works keen-edged in my Canon XF100 HD camcorder and the battery level DOES show up. I can only say that it does on mine and do not know why it would not on another XF100. I have a 9 hr video bound today and am planning on using this battery, I will amend this review in the next few days to attest to how the battery-operated performed and if the battery level adjusted accordingly throughout the day.Update- I just returned from my video slay and the battery performed perfectly.
