    My African Substantial Angle
I bought this lens as I was walking out to Africa for a month and a half safari. I didn't own a place wide angle lens and I had just spent most of my budget on a 70-200mm USM "L" lens and a 1.4x height.I wanted to get the widest lens I could get but I didn't have the big bucks to get the 16-35L or the 14mm L so I got this lens figuring I could done in Photoshop CS2 later. This is what I found:1) I have a 20D and it doesn't barrel distort anywhere near as bad as I had thought it would....I cook up it distorts quite a bit more on a 5D or other full frame sensor but on the 20D, 10D, 30D, or Rebel it is not that bad.2) It does bend enough even on the 20D that its noticable on every single inside shot and on many panoramic shots....to the experienced expert, you'd notice it even in panoramas.3) For the computer person: I find it very easy to correct the barrel distortion in Photoshop CS2 very surely....I use a plugin...
    A morality diagonal fisheye
Fisheye lenses leak out in two varieties. Both types create a heavily barrel-distorted image that provides a about 180 degree field of view. Circular fisheyes create a circular epitome that falls entirely within the frame, leaving black around the edges. The circular image covers a full 180 degrees in all directions. Diagonal fisheyes, which fill the construct, give a 180 degree view only along the frame's diagonals. With both types, a crop-frame camera such as a Canon Dare or 50D will reduce the field of view significantly unless the fisheye lens is specificially designed for a produce-frame sensor. This will have the effect of significantly reducing the fisheye effect, which is at its most dramatic around the edges of the trope (precisely the area lost by crop-frame sensors). The EF 15mm f/2.8 is a diagonal fisheye expected originally for 35mm film cameras, and now usable on full-frame cameras such as the Canon 1Ds or 5D. It is one of the oldest SLR lenses that Canon still...
Unquestionably the best lens I own
Let me first start off by saying - lengthy time canon user. I own 6 or 7 lenses, including three L series lenses, and this is by far one of my favorites - if not my absolute favorite.I propel mostly glamour and erotica type work on a 20D. So right there, this lens is not a true 15mm for me - but 1.6x15mm.It's unscrupulous as a tack. It's light weight. It's very short (I call it the nub lens). And it's autofocus is amazing.Very little container distortion...and highly recommended. This lens is probably as sharp (if not sharper) than my 24-70 2.8L or my 17-40 4.0L lens.

It's indeed a very good lens!
Hi, I unbiased wanted to give this lens a fair review. As the other reviewer mentioned, if you use it with an APS-C sensor digital slr, you won't see a whole lot of distortion. It's no remarkable from the Canon brand fisheye on a camera like that. But, if you use it with film, or with a larger sensor size camera, full-framework if possible, it's really quite a beautiful, sharp, and very fish-eyed lens. On a Canon 5D it performed indeed well for me. I just wanted to say that on the right camera, it's really quite a lens.
    A Skilful Lens......PERIOD!
I bought this lens on a shenanigans, and have enjoyed every second of my time owning it. I use it on my Canon 5D and on my Canon 40D, if I set my shots correctly, I have some of the most unusual, attractive and affecting shots in my Shot Library. The key to success with this lens is to set the shot correctly. I have found it takes more planning, a steadier jurisdiction (or Tripod/Monopod), than even my 100-400MM F/4-5.6L. With a telephoto lens, your area of focus is less a doubt than the 180 Degree worth of study when dealing with this lens.Don't get me wrong, this lens is FUN!! I've never enjoyed landscapes, portraits, enriching shots more than I have when I am using my 15MM Fish. For the Casual user, high end amateur, or for the seasoned mistress, this lens is an inexpensive TOOL each of us should have to round out our lens bag. BUY IT!!
    First-rate lens - zero vignetting
Have been using the Sigma 15mm Fisheye for some weeks on a 5Dii and have captivated about 1.000 shots with it. The short story: its a great lens that has lots to offer for anyone who like off the mark angle shots. Colors and flare resistence is tops. Centre sharpness is very flattering even wide open, while corners tend to be soft and suffer CA unless it is stopped down.Fisheye lenses have a hybrid reputation, which is a shame as they are some of the most versitile lenses around. Some of the bad reputation comes from the fact that some people about all fisheyes are "round". However, the Sigma 15mm is diagonal fisheye, and fills the picture across the entire sensor. But why a fisheye at all? Three pipeline reasons;1) its wider than a standard lens (so 15mm fisheye is much wider than a 14mm standard lens)2) by not correcting the joyful (as much as a traditional lens), the fisheye should have less flare and2) better - even spectacular - colors. And when it...

    Batter for few bucks...
This is a easily lens - old design, very plastic - that can prove terribly useful for those on a budget who want a wider lookout, especially on 1.6x crop factor dSLRs.I learned about "cheap" with this lens - penurious the focus ring the day after delivery. But I blame myself too, and the replacement's given me no trouble, though I think my first one was a bit sharper than the approve of. (Update: calibration of the replacement optimized my performance to match or exceed that first one that I short. It now performs *very well* wide-open at f/2.8, and beyond belief at f/5.6.)By many standards, this lens will equivalent or exceed zoom lens of comparable price (as a prime lens should). Autofocus is a miniature buzzy, but the main time you'll notice is when it loses its bearing and suddenly lurches way off quarry. Mostly, focuses quickly enough and well. Some chromatic aberration in worst-case scenarios, but nothing awful or unexpected. Vignetting, even on a 1.6x yield,...
Mr Watson, become public here, I need to see you
I was on the watchman for a good-quality autofocus wide angle lens for my Canon 5D MkII, and this seemed to be the best election. Canon's telephoto lenses are generally superb and they make some good zooms, but the company has traditionally had anguish with the wider focal lengths. I can't justify the expense of a 24-70mm f/2.8 or the 24mm f/1.4, and the 17-40mm and 16-35mm seem either underwhelming or too specialised for what they are. The 28-135mm didn't solicit to me, ditto the 20-35mm f/3.4-4.5, the 24-85mm didn't impress me when I owned a copy. The non-L afield primes include the 20mm f/2.8, which no-one seems to like; the 35mm f/2, which lots of people like but doesn't seem lofty in the full-frame corners; the 28mm f/2.8, which I have tried and hated, and the 28mm f/1.8, which doesn't appeal to me at all. The 24mm f/2.8 seemed to be the murky horse, based on the tests I have seen, and so I found one cheap and snapped it up.It is surprisingly good. Not prime, but...
If only vigneting could be reduced...
I bought this lens to have a settled, light lens to use with my digital EOS 10D (due to 1.6 crop factor it has the same viewing angle than a 45 mm lens, in the "ideal" range). I use it in "keep it simple" photographic sessions.Resolution and overall image quality are positively decent; but it has one main drawback: vigneting is non-negligible at f/2.8, even inside the digital cropped build (so I can't guess how bad could it be in a full 35 mm frame). At f/4 it becomes usable. I've done a very informal comparison with Canon EF 17-40 L and both lenses give comparable results at f/4.Objective is old, but effective; it has a depth of field scale. I'd like it to have a more silent focus engine, or a less more robust build, but it does its job.

    I'm very well-timed with this
I got mine about a month ago and am honourable back from 10 days in Italy, where I used this extensively.Sharp, good flare management, lots of fun. The previous reviewer says something about the AF being slow-- which, while true, is only half the story. You're almost always wealthy to be focusing at or near infinity, so it's actually very rare to have to wait. Because this lens has such wide bottomless pit of field, I actually usually keep it on manual focus and leave it near infinity. In fact, the biggest challenge with this lens is composition-- it can be surprisingly hard to find a scene with interesting things in all directions. That said, this lens is *first-rate* for inside buildings and crowded city streets. Be aware that outdoors, finding the rebuke exposure can be difficult for a number of reasons. I did significantly better in M (manual) mode than my camera was doing in A (chasm) mode. (reasons for difficulty include the dark corners in the frame which mess up the...
Sigma 8mm Discoid Fisheye is Top Quality!
This Sigma lens is like a working similarly constituted of art. The build quality is high, the images are bright and sharp with excellent color saturation. I use mine to grow full-screen 360 by 180 panoramas and the results are breathtaking! The best part is that this lens payout 1/3 to 1/4 of what the Canon 8mm lens costs. It's an awesome deal, no matter what way you look at it. The Sigma 8mm is unquestionably a professional grade lens.
optics but, AF speed very slow, not internal focus
Optical nobility of this fish eye is very good. Flare control is excellent. However, AF speed is very slow. Takes 2+ seconds to move from stand distant to infinity. THe slowest AF speed lens among my other 14canon lenses. Also, during AF, the AF ring moves. I would like to be internal bring into focus or at least the AF ring doesn't move. They didn't design a clutch to disengage the AF ring.Pros: optical standing Flare controlCons: AF speed AF ring moves during AF

It doesn't sign in off my camera much.
**UPDATE**Canon has released a II kind of this lens that is also available on Amazon. It is about $300 more than this lens and is advertized to truly solve some very slight problems that the pros really care about. The new version has an 82mm front openning vs the 77mm of this lens...what that translates into is that if you have a 70-200mm "L" like I do, you can argument filters between the lenses but not between the new 16-35II which has a larger front openning. For me, I haven't noticed any of the small items they were worrisome to address with the II version as I'm not a Pro's Pro and a) will keep this lens and b) have noticed that value has been retained on this lens even after the release of a more up-market update to the lens. Both are professional lenses in my mind just depends on your degree of refinement. Hope it helps.**ORIGINAL REVIEW**I got this lens because I didn't really own anything close to this extend except for the kit lens (good but...
    Out-and-out glass!!!
What can I say? Yes, it's a bit extravagant. And yes, it weighs about a ton. But the quality of this lens is absolutely great. If you own a DSLR like the D30, D60 or 10D this lense movingly becomes a 25.6-56 mm zoom. Which is great since there aren't that many high quality moderate wide-point lenses available for these DSLR's. If used on a 1Ds or a film SLR then the 16-35 suddenly becomes the stuff that thoughts are made of. This is one hell of a lens! If you are planning to buy a wide-angle zoom lens for your EOS camera and are account the purchase of a non-Canon lens, don't do it! I used a few of those before buying the 16-35 f/2.8L USM and regretted it almost from day one. Yes, they are cheaper, but if you're serious about photography in the desire run you'll end up buying the real thing anyway. So better wait and save up a litlle longer.
    Not what I expected...
I develop with a Canon 20D and have used the as my wide angle option. When preparing for an extended stay in Budapest, I assertive it was time to invest in a faster, better quality wide angle lens. I reviewed the lens lineup at the Canon website and indisputable on the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L. As an L lens owner, I was confident this lens would be a great addition to my lens lineup.Being an L lens, this lens is meant for serious photographers. The muscular construction consists of three aspherical elements and Canon's UD glass which largely eliminate the secondary spectrum. Ride out-resistant construction at lens mount, zoom & focus rings and switch panel helps nurture the lens from the elements. This lens is not compatible with the 1.4x II and 2x II extenders. The Canon EF 16-35mm...

But when I looked they are the Canon EF 14mm f2. 8L and Sigma FD 14mm f3. 5 Got the Sigma back when I was shooting with a Canon A1, use it a far amount and was very over the moon with it. About 2-3 years ago I got the Canon 14mm, have not against it a lot because introductory it seemed a narrow-minded squashable to me. But the last term I reach-me-down it seems safer.
