    Dapper, fast, inexpensive
Once upon a all together the 50 mm lens was THE standard camera lens and was THE optical benchmark by which manufacturers were judged and compared. Although the prime lens focus has now shifted (at least at the low to mid amateur level) to zooms - you can still benefit from years of digging and development that went into designing the 50 mm lens and this here lens may be the best lens, dollar for dollar, that you can ever buy. The suspicions about is can you afford not to own this lens?Years of development have brought us a lens that has a fast aperture of 1.8 - far faster than any consumer zoom lens - and that is abruptly as a filed tack. Be forewarned about the sharpness . . . if you are taking pictures of people, this lens is unyielding in its sharpness and may well astonishment you and your subjects whose every blemish is captured. The lens has a fabulously shallow depth of field if you privation to use the 1.8 aperture to blow out a background. This lens is also ridiculously inexpensive...
    Unexcelled Value in Photography!
Wow! My theory now is that Canon doesn't put this mollycoddle as their kit lens because many people would decide that they DONT NEED ANOTHER ONE! And many of them would be right!Like others, I bought the Apostate XT and the 28-135 IS lens. The 28-135 is heavy and priced like a gold brick. I estimate it does OK, and I do keep it mounted most of the time. And like others, I stumbled on this lens somehow, read the raving reviews, and for the reward figured, "What the heck?"This lens in tack sharp. It shows the fire in the colors you photograph. The off the mark aperture means candles can be excellent lights for portraits. Its narrow field is large. There are pitfalls though. I snapped a pic of my face at arm's length using autofocus a while back and (1) the focus locked on the tip of my nose and my mask was already blurring (2) the lens was so sharp that I saw blackheads clearly on my nose tip I can't really see in the reflector (doh!). I've read that dSLR images are...
    Supreme Value
I've had the 50mm f1.8 for about three months now, so I wanted to put in my two cents advantage after a little field use. What originally attracted me to this lens was, obviously, the price. It is very, very inexpensive. This is proper due to the fact that the housing is, unlike its predecessor the Mark I, entirely plastic. That initially put me off, but after seeing some images posted that had been bewitched with this lens (and after seeing the prices of the f1.4 and the used mark I)I decided that I really had nothing to be defeated. There are, as with most lenses good and bad elements to this lens. Lets start with the bad.Keep in mind that if you are shooting a canon DSLR (as I am) this 50mm lens really behaves as an 80mm lens, so it isn't that terribly wide. The fact that it is functionally 80mm can make framing shots a bit problematical. This is definitely a secondary lens and really isn't that appropriate for a "walking around lens." At least it isn't for me, as I lean to...

    Works, but could be crap-shooter . . .
I purchased this adapter in the hopes it would aside me to use my FD glass on my EOS 5D until I could afford equivalent EF lenses. I used it with my FD 50mm f1.4, FD 135mm f2.5 SC lenses and did some experimenting with a 400mm f6.3 T-Mount lens. Here are some of my conclusions:1) The adapter's lens diameter is too short for a full frame camera like the 5D. This leads to vignetting which would be a problem if you try to use the image out to the edge. It was not as visible with the 135mm lens as it was with the 50mm or 400mm. Note that this may not be an issue with crop sensor cameras. I question if the this problem could be fixed by increasing the adapter's lens diameter.2) The experiment with the 400mm lens was to murder the adapter's lens and use it as an extension tube to improve the close focus of that particular lens. I would not praise doing that since the adapter lens does not come out as one piece - so you have to be very careful to remember how to...
    Fotodiox Adapter Works Well
The adapter does what it says it does. Yes you suffer defeat a little detail because of the extra glass piece. I have 4 FD lenses that I can now use with my Canon 60D. Believe it or not, when I shoot in video style I love the way the video looks when I use this adapter. It has a slight movie-like faint blur. It's a virtuousness effect. If you are looking to take really crisp pictures, you might not want to purchase. Don't get me wrong though, the pictures still look surely good. You just lose a little detail. Hope this review helps with your decision.
    Tested today
i legitimate tested the adapter today , with a 28-70 Summatech 1:2.8 ~ 4.2 and the pictures came out quite good , HD video's nice also ... the adapter looks like it can handle the upsetting-er lens , but i would not put all my money on that ... i will still support the lens wile shooting . and given that i emptied about 13 $ on the lens at a thrift store , i think this adapter is really worth the cost out. Another detail , make sure you lock the lens all the way ... wait for the click.

    No issues!
This is the most qualified adapter I've ever owned for any type of camera. It lets me use my old Minolta MD Rokkor lenses on my Canon Eos 5D MkII. There are no problems with the adapter meddling with the camera's functions. The adapter goes on like a Canon lens, and the Minolta lens goes on the adapter like it would on a Minolta camera. There is a pin on the Nautical port (as you face the camera) of the adapter that you press to remove the lens. To remove the adapter, you use the camera's lens manumit button on the right. The aperture becomes manual, which means it stays at the set aperture before, during and after the exposure. That's not a dilemma at all, with the Canon's bright viewfinder. I keep the lens at F/8 most of the time, and it's not at all dim, except in the shade. This Fotodiox adapter has a compensating lens in the tag end, which makes up for the shorter flange distance in Canon cameras. You can remove it for macrophotography.Using this adapter is a very...
Gave me 4 new lenses for my Canon 7D
I predominately use my 7D for video, and I have to say this adapter works so well, I bought 2 (I have 4 minolta lenses). If you have other lenses from a preceding SLR that are just sitting up in a closet, this adapter is a no brainer. It gave me a 50mm F1.4, a 28mm F2.8, a 50mm macro F3.5, and a 70-210mm Zoom F4. Ikon quality is excellent on all of them.
    some are marred
I at best returned the one that i bought and plan on buying something similar from a different manufacturer. From what I can only deduce as a tooling indiscretion, some of these adapters do not allow for manual apature adjustment, rendering them pretty much useless. Chances are that if you get a bad one and reimbursement it for another, it will be fine but I don't want to waste that much time.

    Description

The Opteka FD (Guide Focus) System to Canon EOS (Auto Focus) Series Cameras Lens Adapter allows the use of older Canon FD series lenses on Canon's EOS (sports car focus) series cameras. Unlike other simple mount adapters, this is an optical adapter which is in fact at the same time also a short teleconverter, which increases the focal length by a factor of 1.25x, and reduces the lens crack by approx. one f/stop. This adapter allows for focusing at infinity.

    Customer Reviews

    Bettor than nothing
It took a lot of fiddling to mentioned out that the internal glass was threaded too deeply, not allowing for infinity focus. After tweaking the alignment, it works reasonably well. Proposal tests prove the two elements of glass really kills the contrast and the resolution of the FD lenses. I've got 15 gain to great FD pieces I really wanted to use again. After testing, the loss of sharpness was a disappointment. Stopping down helps, but it's nowhere near what an EOS lens creates. Buy it for a specialty conspiracy, but don't get your hopes up too high. Sigh, I really wanted this to be an answer. Someone needs to make a gigantic lens insert for this product, then it would be a god-send!
    Advantageous but not optically excellent
This unimportant adapter allows you to mount your legacy Canon FD mount lenses on Canon EOS bodies, and retain the skills to focus to infinity. For the price, it is adequate. It does physically mount the lens and focal point to infinity. But the cheap glass used in this adapter is not of highest quality. You will notice a erosion of resolution and contrast. It will vignette with long lenses on a full frame body. Still, for the money it serves appropriately. If you want a special purpose or very expensive FD lens to mount on your EOS camera, this will work -- with the caveats prominent. Many of us have fond memories of using high quality Canon FD lenses and for that purpose this can still be an enjoyable gimmick. Background: When Canon went to autofocus, they built an adapter for their FD lenses like this one, but it was much superior optically and technologically. There was a second macro version that Canon made, with no glass and hence no focus to infinity. They were only supplied to...
    merit the money
I was very disenchanted when i found out that my old lenses would not work on my new body. But this device rescued me from spend hundreds more on the lenses i already have. Determinedly worth the money.

Opteka T-Mount Adapter for Canon EOS
The enabled me to fit a 500mm vivitar reproduction lens to a Canon eos digital camera, giving me a focal length of 700mm! The depth of possibilities is quite shallow because of the fixed aperture of f8, but I have been able to get very close to birds and animals unheard. The adapter saved a lens that would have otherwise gone unused. It is useful for all your manual focus T-mount lenses.
    Works well
Well made, firmly fit on Canon XS Digital SLR. Used to mount camera on telescopes using T-Adapter.
    Admissible quality
I purchased this T-mount to put my newly purchased Canon Rebel Xsi to a Bausch and Lomb Discoverer 60mm Telescope. With the T-mount unavailable to my camera, and a t-adapter attached to the scope, I have a 1000-4000mm lens that works great for moon photos and coarse pictures. It took me a little while to adjust the camera settings to fit the telescope, but after a couple nights of shifting the settings, I got some pretty nice moon shots. This T-mount is simple, easy to use, and connects probably to the scope with an additional T-adapter. The mount seems strong and sturdy; my camera feels securely of interest to the telescope.

The most successfully 'batter for your cash', when it comes to lenses, is generally speaking found with prime (non zoom) lenses. One rationality is that the destine doesn't have to be compromised for the zoom, it's optimized for the one central measurement of the lens. Another end is that prime lenses inveterately have a larger acme chink.

Canon or Nikon...Old Canon lens on new Canon DSLR?

I'm looking in to by any means getting a new DSLR. (my first) I've only had a SLRs before. A Canon Rebel Ti and an AE-1. Also a Nikon point and slay.

    I'm thinking of getting either a Nikon D5000, Nikon D90 or a Canon T2i.
    The D5000

The older Canon FD mount lenses are not like-minded with Canon DSLR cameras. Lenses for your Rebel Ti are EF mount and fully compatible with Canon DSLR cameras.
