    Harsh, fast, inexpensive
Once upon a in unison a all the same the 50 mm lens was THE standard camera lens and was THE optical benchmark by which manufacturers were judged and compared. Although the vital lens focus has now shifted (at least at the low to mid amateur level) to zooms - you can still benefit from years of examine and development that went into designing the 50 mm lens and this here lens may be the best lens, dollar for dollar, that you can ever buy. The doubt is can you afford not to own this lens?Years of development have brought us a lens that has a fast aperture of 1.8 - far faster than any consumer zoom lens - and that is dapper as a filed tack. Be forewarned about the sharpness . . . if you are taking pictures of people, this lens is unyielding in its sharpness and may well bowl over you and your subjects whose every blemish is captured. The lens has a fabulously shallow depth of field if you pine for to use the 1.8 aperture to blow out a background. This lens is also ridiculously inexpensive...
    Upper crust Value in Photography!
Wow! My theory now is that Canon doesn't put this babe in arms as their kit lens because many people would decide that they DONT NEED ANOTHER ONE! And many of them would be right!Like others, I bought the Resister XT and the 28-135 IS lens. The 28-135 is heavy and priced like a gold brick. I judgement it does OK, and I do keep it mounted most of the time. And like others, I stumbled on this lens somehow, read the raving reviews, and for the payment figured, "What the heck?"This lens in tack sharp. It shows the fire in the colors you photograph. The deviant aperture means candles can be excellent lights for portraits. Its narrow field is abundant. There are pitfalls though. I snapped a pic of my face at arm's length using autofocus a while back and (1) the focus locked on the tip of my nose and my dial was already blurring (2) the lens was so sharp that I saw blackheads clearly on my nose tip I can't really see in the reproduction (doh!). I've read that dSLR images are...
    Supreme Value
I've had the 50mm f1.8 for about three months now, so I wanted to put in my two cents quality after a little field use. What originally attracted me to this lens was, obviously, the price. It is very, very inexpensive. This is acceptable due to the fact that the housing is, unlike its predecessor the Mark I, entirely plastic. That initially put me off, but after seeing some images posted that had been bewitched with this lens (and after seeing the prices of the f1.4 and the used mark I)I decided that I really had nothing to admit defeat. There are, as with most lenses good and bad elements to this lens. Lets start with the bad.Keep in mind that if you are shooting a canon DSLR (as I am) this 50mm lens literally behaves as an 80mm lens, so it isn't that terribly wide. The fact that it is functionally 80mm can make framing shots a bit fussy. This is definitely a secondary lens and really isn't that appropriate for a "walking around lens." At least it isn't for me, as I nurse to...

Works, but could be safer . . .
I purchased this adapter in the hopes it would sanction me to use my FD glass on my EOS 5D until I could afford equivalent EF lenses. I used it with my FD 50mm f1.4, FD 135mm f2.5 SC lenses and did some experimenting with a 400mm f6.3 T-Mount lens. Here are some of my conclusions:1) The adapter's lens diameter is too ashamed for a full frame camera like the 5D. This leads to vignetting which would be a problem if you try to use the image out to the edge. It was not as pronounced with the 135mm lens as it was with the 50mm or 400mm. Note that this may not be an issue with crop sensor cameras. I gawk if the this problem could be fixed by increasing the adapter's lens diameter.2) The experiment with the 400mm lens was to discharge the adapter's lens and use it as an extension tube to improve the close focus of that particular lens. I would not put forward doing that since the adapter lens does not come out as one piece - so you have to be very careful to remember how to...
    Fotodiox Adapter Works Well
The adapter does what it says it does. Yes you let slip a little detail because of the extra glass piece. I have 4 FD lenses that I can now use with my Canon 60D. Believe it or not, when I shoot in video configuration I love the way the video looks when I use this adapter. It has a slight movie-like faint fuzz. It's a good effect. If you are looking to take really crisp pictures, you might not want to purchase. Don't get me unbecoming though, the pictures still look really good. You just lose a little detail. Hope this weigh helps with your decision.
    Tested today
i principled tested the adapter today , with a 28-70 Summatech 1:2.8 ~ 4.2 and the pictures came out tuneful good , HD video's nice also ... the adapter looks like it can handle the gloomy-er lens , but i would not put all my money on that ... i will still support the lens wile shooting . and given that i exhausted about 13 $ on the lens at a thrift store , i think this adapter is really worth the cost. Another detail , make sure you lock the lens all the way ... wait for the click.

The 50mm f/1.4 example lens is a terrific choice for both casual and professional photographers. The lens is outfitted with two extravagant-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics, which combine to eliminate astigmatism and repress astigmatic difference. As a result, the lens obtains crisp images with little flare even at the top aperture. The lens's f/1.4 speed, meanwhile, is perfect for available-light shooting. And as a largesse, this lens is the only lens in the EF system to offer an extra-small Micro Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) while still providing a full-continually manual focusing option. Other features include a close focusing distance of 1.5 feet, a 58mm leach size, and a one-year warranty.

    Why shell out more?
With the 50mm f1.8 lens readily obtainable for less than a hundred dollars, why spend so much more to get the f1.4? The answer is, you may not need to. It all depends on your seriousness, budget, and how lengthy you need your lens to last.If you want a "starter lens" for shooting at 50mm (or with prime lenses in extensive), the f1.8 would be a great buy. 50mm is a very useful and intuitive focal length to spend some every so often with, because it will portray the world through the viewfinder at about the same distance as your naked eye on all of Canon's consumer-priced dSLRs with the 1.6x yield factor*. (*Updated after extensive discussion in the comments.) So you could buy the f1.8 superficially, regard it as a "play with it" lens, and get a nice introduction to "prime lens quality." The f1.8 will seem like a worthwhile step up from kit lenses and most consumer-priced zooms, and amazing bang for few bucks. So if the f1.8 is such a huge bargain, why would the f1.4 be among Canon's...
    A examination for parents
I bought this lens to take indoor portraits of my nine-month-old daughter using within reach light. I was tired of the harsh photos produced by the built-in flash on the Canon 20D or Digital Apostate. A bounce flash improves matters great deal, but I wanted to see what could be done with a fast lens. The Canon 50mm 1.4 gobbles bearable. It opens up a world of indoor photography that is not possible with a 4.0 lens. The 50mm focal size combined with available light produces natural-looking results. It is exactly what your eye sees. Shadows and highlights are inviolate. It is a revelation if you're used to the harsh drop shadows and evenly-lit faces produced by flashes. This is a jarring eccentric up in quality from snapshot to "wow"As noted, focus is soft at /1.4 and begins to sharpen at /2.0 to /2.8. Not a bad affair, though. Some of my favorite pictures have been produced with the aperture wide open. The depth of field is so mean at this point, that the subject's face is...
Other than - At a price
This 50mm is stunning. I truly love it. I debated a long time between the 1.8 and the 1.4. In the end, I figured I'd never supersede it again so get the 1.4. I love it - the images it makes are staggering. Still - it's pricy compared to the 1.8 - but not to L series lenses. I judge it's worth it. I read online it had barrel distortion wide open - and it does if you actually study the image - but that's perfectly OK with me for the 1.4 shallow depth of field. Normal residents will never see that at all. One drawback you may not think of is that beautiful wide open 1.4 aperture is not available to you if there is much light-bulb. It's so fast it's easy to overexpose - even with 1/4000th of a second shutter. It takes awesome portraits - wonderful landscapes. This is a must have lens in every EOS owner's bag. Don't get the 1.8 and wish you got this one. Get this one and start taking great photos.

Sterling indoor lens for Rebel XT
I didn't contemplate it would be, but this lens winds up on my Rebel XT most of the time. The lens is compact and performs well indoors in low incandescence - best to use autofocus set to center point only. 35mm focal length is a nice public purpose focal length on a 1.6 crop DSLR.This lens is sharp at f2.0 and actually sharp by f2.5-f2.8. I have a lot of experience and test my lenses with tripod/mirror lockup, I'm not scarcely saying sharp at f2.0 - it IS sharp. I considered the 24mm f2.8, but f2.8 is a pretty crawling prime at wider focal lengths - loses a lot of the low light advantage.I am impressed with the colors I have been getting from this lens, wasn't in point of fact expecting the colors to be so good at such a low price point - doesn't have the L lens coatings, but Canon did the colors redress. The autofocus speed is pretty good - not as fast as ring USM lenses - and it is a little deafening/buzzy.I currently own 7 Canon lenses (2 Ls) including 4 primes - this...
Wonderful Prime Lens for the Reward.
Bought this lens as a 'gauge' prime lens for my Digital Rebel XT. What I found was that it was a fast, sharp, and lightweight lens that made the camera important for long walks. This would be the perfect lens to take to an amusement park, hiking, or biking where dimensions and weight are a concern.I've also used this lens for macro photography and portraits where it shines. The F2 Bokeh is wonderful and forefront sharpness is superb even at F2, much better at F4 which is what I use most of the time.On the negative side, autofocus is noisy. To compare, it's like a dope-crazed wasp trapped in a matchbox. Maybe a mosquito buzzing close to your ear. It's not louder than the shutter, though. If this were a haziness camera and I was trying to take candid shots, I'd complain more, but it's a 56mm equivelant lens.Another negative is found quality. They really should make the body of this lens out of thicker plastic. No reason to skimp there as the 'sense' of the...
Charming indoor and lowlight lens for Canon Digital Rebel
This is my lens of selection for indoor and campfire scenes were the ambient light is low and flash can not always be used. Similar leading-end L lenses are too expensive for me, and below-$600 zooms are too slow for these situations. 50mm primes are good for portraits, but you have to degree too far back to capture more of the scene, to 28-35mm seems to be the best on 1.6x cropped sensor cameras like Digital Flout. At $240, this lens provides great bang for the buck, but you get what you pay for, so there are a number of issues to deliberate over:1. No USM. Auto-focus is slow and noisy. Often hunts for focus, esp. in low light.2. No vade-mecum override of auto-focus. Switching to MF is required to do manual focus adjustments.3. Cannot be hand-me-down with any filters. I've wanted to use a warming filter with the flash, and all the filters I've tried (including the very costly multi-coated ones from Hoya & Heliopen) cause ghost images and flares around any luminous...

An nonpareil mount for your Sony Alpha Nex
I bought this adapter because I needed more versatility out of my Alpha Nex 5, as I only had the 16mm lens. I didn't need to drop $300 for the 18-55 lens, especially with the amount of barrel distortion it has. So with already having a yoke FD lenses, I was keen on buying this adapter. I must say, it was an excellent purchase! I was warned that it might degrade figure quality if I use a mount, but my pictures look better than ever. This is everything you could ever want out of a mount, it's small, allows for rift and bayonet mounting (I have both, and have tested both to work incredibly), and even aperture control (make certain to mount the lens correctly though otherwise you will not have this feature)! This adapter specifically is incredible because of the price you can get FD lenses. I have a Vivitar 28-200 macro, a Vivitar 500mm Speculum lens, a Canon 50mm prime, and a Canon 70-150mm zoom lens (picked them up for about a total of $45, look around Goodwill and garage sales for...
    Well made bad buy
I purchased 4 abundant version of this adapter for my Sony NEX-7. I have posted the same review for all 4 of them.1- Contax- G2, The fit is dedicated on both camera and lense side and I did not notice any IQ degradation. The focus ring initially was a bit hard to toil. Partly because the ring is close to the body and there is not much room. The lense also requires some torque to move the internal parts. But after I played with it fixed devoted to to the lens but off the camera it losend up. Take your time attaching the lense to the adapter not to damage the focusing identity theory. Those of you who have this lense know why. I just wanted to remind you.2- Canon, The fit on the camera side has a bit of rotational about b dally but dose not seems to effect the Proformance the lense side is perfect. I dont have recent canon lenses. My canon lens is very old, 70's 50 mm 1.4, no matter with the IQ. This was the first lense I ever bought. With a AT1 body.3- Leica M39, Both...
    Forceful connections at both ends
UPDATE: I well-deserved bought a second Fotodiox Canon-Nex adapter, and it has been improved slightly over the previous one. The aperture advance showing ring is wider, with an easier-to-grip texture. It also moves more smoothly. The rest of the adapter is unchanged and still works to the letter. My plan is to leave the tripod mount on one, for use with my long Canon lenses and leave it off the other, for sleeker handheld use and for compatibility with the Canon bellows. As before, I have a fancy that they had made it a few thousandths thinner so that lenses would focus at or closer to the infinity stop. The Fotodiox adapter fits of laughter the NEX body perfectly and snaps in place with a rotation-free and vibration-free fit. Likewise, the Canon spike works with all my lenses. The rotational alignment is off by a couple of degrees, which doesn't matter at all for lenses, but when I use the adapter to fix the NEX body to my Canon bellows, it sits at a slight angle, so if the bellows is level, the...

    The No-Scamper Answer To Everything
I've owned this lens for reasonable over a year now, and it's on my camera almost all the time - despite the fact that I've bought two other lenses.I'm a fan of shooting impartial shots, mostly indoors, and flash is just NOT an option if you really want great pics that don't horn in with (or annoy) your subjects. I came to this lens because the EF50mm f/1.8 was just a bit *too* tight/long for frank pics without stepping back all the time, or settling for face shots only. This 28mm approaches the 'standard' 50mm lens reach that shoots pretty much what you see with your eye.I thought the lens was a bit soft at first, but over time, I've gotten to know it in quod and out, and my photos are close to tack-sharp most of the time - even though I rarely shoot above f/2.5 with this. I'll take shooting with this at f/1.8 or f/2.0 over a lens with clone stabilization any time. And of course, being a prime (non-zoom) lens means that your pictures are flourishing to be sharper than...
    clever all-purpose lens for APS-C
For APS-C digitals cameras with a 1.6 yield factor, this becomes equivalent to 44mm with a 35mm film camera. I bought this lens a general purpose prime lens for APS-C with ruthlessly the same angle as 50mm for the 35mm film camera (Canon does not have a 30mm, only Sigma's 30mm f/1.4 is the closest). I have familiar this prime lens on my Digital Rebel and 30D for a few hundred shots so far, and I am very pleased with the sharpness of the photos, as well as the hurry. I think it is softer at f/1.8, which happens in most cases of any lens, and rather like to used a inconsequential to f/2.2 - 2.8. With such low apertures the area of focus is very shallow, thus I appreciate the great autofocus from the USM, which works flawness with the syndication of a Canon digital SLR and a Canon lens. Also there are 10 glass elements, producing a nic bokeh, minimum gap of 25cm for focusing, so it is well-built lens. It is about 10 oz, not as light as the f/2.8 version, but it is much stronger in low-turn on...
The excellent non-L-series lens for this focal length.
I lover this lens. Excluding Canon's L-series professional lens offerings (which are all considerably more expensive), this is the sharpest lens I have seen from them. I use it from for long-exposure night photography to get wide-angle sky shots. The fast optics suffer for short enough exposures that I don't need a wedge to avoid star trails. It's also very compact and flare, making it an easy lens to carry around for general use. With my 300D DSLR and its inherent 1.6x yield, the lens has an effective 45mm focal length, which makes it a good general-purpose lens. Its portability mutual with its good performance in low light make it the perfect lens for candid indoor photography.

It was finicky to estimate the Lumix 14-140 . What follows is by no means a well-regulated assay of this lens: it’s upstanding what I did to see how this lens compares to my Canon FD prime lenses. The Lumix only opens up to a top crack of f/4. 0, and that at full speed diminishes to f/5. 8, which means it can Non-Standard real only be reach-me-down for open exteriors, unless you’re bringing in a lot of sunny, or don’t berate cranking the close with all the way...
