He Points, He Shoots, He Scores!
The SD870 IS is about everything you could desire in a compact point and shoot digital camera. It offers excellent image blue blood, a large vivid LCD display, intelligent defaults, fine low-light sensitivity, a dear quality movie mode (with sound), an outstanding wide-angle lens and (most importantly for me) a photo arrest speed that leaves many other digital cameras in the dust.I cover a fair amount of electronics merchandising shows such as CES and CEDIA for my home theater site (Big Picture Big Sound), so I need a camera that is skilful on the draw, has a good macro feature for close-ups, and has good low light sensitivity and zoom for hauteur shots at press conferences. But portability is also key, as I need to carry the camera around in my pocket along with other gadgets for note-enchanting. I've owned a Canon S400 Digital Elph for a number of years, and it has served me well, but the lag time between pushing the shutter handle and actually getting a picture (particularly indoors)...
Canon's best bib ELPH yet !!!
This camera replaced my trusty SD450. I loved the SD450, but I wanted to upgrade to something with symbol stabilization. To put it simply, the SD870 totally rocks! The 3" screen is beautiful to regard. It's even viewable outside with bright sunlight shining directly on it. And the pictures this thing takes are genuinely gorgeous! They are sharp as a tack, and the colors are spot on. I have to say, the image stabilization really makes a big remainder, particularly when you are shooting in low light. I also like the new, wide-angle lens. It really comes in serviceable when taking group shots or shooting in close quarters. The only negative I can come up with is the deficiency of an optical viewfinder. I guess this is a sacrifice you have to make in order to get a screen this big on such a small camera.Pros:Poisonous photos with great color saturationOptical image stabilizationSpeedy shot-to-shot experience for an ultra-compactBright 3" screen that's easy...
Friendship the wide angle lens and big LCD
This is my 3rd digital camera and the first that didn't coerce studying the manual to figure out which buttons and submenus to use for various functions. I've had the 870 for a month and it's performed well in both dark rooms and in shining outdoor light. The shutter delay in daylight shots is negligible and a big improvement over preceding cameras. The movie function is also pretty cool. Battery life is great and the second-sighted menu and symbols on the large LCD don't require magnifying glasses to read. But my favorite special attraction is the wide angle lens--the advantage was really obvious when comparing group shots from other matter-and-shoot ultracompacts at 2 birthday parties. My only disappointment are the flimsy plastic doors for the battery-operated and USB port (why I only give it 4 stars). These items are what broke on my Optio S and forced me to retire it after 2 years of jolly use. I'll be babying these doors with the hope that I don't lose my $400 investment in the near-term.... The LCD and...

Some residents just LIVE to complain
First, I did not buy mine from Amazon, preferably electing to get it instantly at Wal-Mart.I am also far from a camera expert. With that said, I was quite pleased with this camera, which was a colossal upgrade over my old Kodak DC340.First, I REALLY like the generous 12x zoom with this camera, which enabled me to get outstanding quality photos with good detail of two particular wary birds, a Bob White quail, and an Eastern Bluebird.I also found the dream up stabilization feature useful for my less than completely still hands, and I need to reiterate that image stabilization has NOTHING to do with capturing a indecorous moving object, as Spacejockey seemed to believe. Also, far from being annoyed by the flash having a button to pop it up, I undeniably like being able to manually disable flash by leaving the flash physically latched down as an alternative of having to mess around with menu controls to do it.I fail to see how this is a negative, Spacejockey.Likewise, I unreservedly...
    Big travel camera
I have been a serious unpaid photographer for more than 20 years and have a large collection of cameras for my photography needs. I recently purchased my S1500 while traveling in Asia over the defunct couple of weeks. I decided to leave my DSLR behind on this trip and had only packed my point-and-pump full of lead. After a few days, I realized that I needed more camera to capture the sights of Singapore, Indonesia and Australia. The Fuji S1500 seemed to fit the bill and was a comparable cost in Singapore to purchasing it here in the USA and had the zoom capabilities and other features I wanted in a compact camera.First use:I took the camera out for a walking voyage in Singapore and captured some great shots in both SR Auto and P mode. Focus is sharp and the colors are loving terrible. OK, so with outdoor daytime shots working, I thought I would try some night shots.I went to the top of the Swissotel in Singapore at nightfall for some night landscape shots. I placed the camera...
An Overlooked Belle for an Astounding Price
As an all-embracing package, this camera is simply astounding. Besides a few minor flaws, you get a nearly perfect, enthusiastically versatile camera with a fairly expansive feature set and good image quality for less than $200. What more can you ask for? Well, there are a few things, but let me first start with the pros...+ Select price. Obviously, getting this kind of technology for less than $200 is a rare find. Fuji somehow keeps prices at the low end of the spectrum, while managing to keep up quality.+ Good construction. This thing feels solid, and fits nicely in the hands. I don't have any qualms about clear quality or cheapness; for $200, you'd be hard-pressed to find something with comparable materials and build rank.+ Large feature set. The feature set really is as expansive as the description says. As mentioned before, some of them aren't definitely as good as they sound, but that will be discussed next. I'm not a even nearly a professional...

    Customer Reviews

    Extreme all-purpose zoom lens
I recently purchased SONY A700K, which is a A700 plus SONY 18-70 zoom lens away. The bundled lens turned out to be a nightmare. So I purchased this SAL-1680Z. Do I like it? Let me tell you.If you genuinely really care about sharpness, resolution, MTF, then get multiple prime lenses. No zoom lenses coordinate any Minolta/Sony prime lenses in this category. But if you can compromise a little bit (just a inconsequential bit) and want some 5x zoom convenience, look no further. This lens gives you all. Yes it is not cheap for a digital-aspect (1.5x FOV) lens, but in addition you get the "Zeiss" color: deep and classy. Is it perfect? No, it shows some vignetting when far-reaching open.Bottom line: If you have Sony Alpha 700 (or 100) and if you want a zoom lens which you can use on almost any kettle of fish, save some money and get this.
    Sony SAL-1680Z Lens Study
I have been an non-professional photographer for years, shooting with film cameras. When I purchased my old film camera, it came with an low-cost "kit" lens that did not perform to my expectations. I ended up having to buy a new (and better) lens for it.I recently purchased a Sony Alpha A100 digital camera with the 18-70 mm DT "kit" lens.Although the camera itself performs estimably, the included lens was not as sharp and crisp as I wanted or expected. So, as before with the film cameras, I purchased a improve lens for the Sony Alpha - the SAL-1680Z 16-80 mm Carl Zeiss Zoom Lens. The lens is unmistakably much better quality. It feels "tighter", and it's made in Japan rather than China. The lens is also heavier than run-of-the-mill "cheap" plastic lenses. Not "too heavy", but the kind of weight that says "quality".However, the big character came when I TRIED the lens and zoomed way into the resulting digital images. This lens is razor...
A number Zeiss Zoom Lens For Sony Alpha System
This is an deficient zoom lens which owners of Konica Minolta Maxxum SLR cameras as well as Sony Alpha SLR cameras should strongly meditate on adding to their kits. I recently had the opportunity to use it at this year's Photo Plus East and was wholly impressed with the extremely high color saturation and resolution of this lens, trying it with the label new flagship Sony Alpha 700 SLR camera. This lens is one of the reasons why I might consider adding the Sony Alpha system to my known camera kits; the others are the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 Planar and 135mm f1.8 Sonnar lenses. Distinction-wise, I think these lenses compare favorably with the late, lamented autofocus Contax N-mount Zeiss lenses (Like those lenses the new Sony Alpha Zeiss lenses are built in Japan under thorough Zeiss quality control, using designs made by Zeiss at its Oberkochen, Germany headquarters, where some Zeiss lenses are still being made for the Zeiss Ikon ZM rangefinder camera system and the Hasselblad "V" series vehicle...

One of the excel Prosumer Digicams
This camera evokes fancy/hate relationship based on the numerous reviews and comments from users. So the bottom line genuinely is the picture quality.Prior to owning this I had been an Nikon and Canon SLR user but like many, I also have to adapt to the contemporaneous trend in using digicams. So before purchasing, I spent a whole month researching through the web, visited shops and get a sense of the current digicams on offer. In my quest for the best digicam for my needs, I have seen their efficiency, held the camera itself and thoroughly inspected everything about them. Besides, Im spending U$600-700 so I really need the conquer for my needs. In those times, I have seen them all, and finally purchased the S7000.What about S7000? I must say that the picture grade of this camera is best at 6mp native resolution. Although it is capable of taking 12MP interpolated photos, I would from where one stands skip that because at that resolution it does become noticeable noisy. However, pictures taken at 6MP and...
Update after half a year's circumstance
Now that I've had the camera for several months its seems like a beneficial time for an update, especially given some of the criticisms that have been leveled at the S7000.The short be to blame for is that I still love the camera, even though it's not perfect. The long answer deserves some explanation.I have many years savoir faire with 35mm film, but also many years experience with computers and computer graphics. Even today, film has capabilities that can't be matched with digital cameras, except in any way by cameras beyond the means of most people. On the other hand, digital photography has huge advantages in terms of abrupt accessibility, cost per shot, electronic distribution, editing and enhancement, and the ability to mastery the printing process to get prints that look the way you want them to.My initial path into digital photography was to buy a film scanner and look over 35mm slides, which in some ways still represents the best of both worlds. But it is a time consuming and expensive...
    Awsome photos
I had the unlooked-for to tinker with this camera and had it set to 12MP, Fine, and soft sharpness as suggested by one reviewer here. Started intriguing pictures mostly outside without the flash. I was so delighted with the shots that I had them developed at a local Kodak processing fore. 5 A4 sizes and the rest in 6X4s. This is a native 6MP camera but the shots taken at 12 MP can oppose a 9 or 10MP camera without paying extra. The printed photos were just amazingly clean of clash and artifacts. I suggest getting a circular polarizer with it because it just brings out more vibrant go red to your outdoor shots. I am so thrilled with the performance that I have started buying accessories for it to really take more favourably of all its features. The accessories I bought are1. Adapter ring (I suggest getting 55-55 not the suggested 55-52)I bought mine from cameragear.com because it is not availble from any stores in amazon.2. First-rate P&S camera but avoid EXR Auto mode at all costs
I received this camera a week ago and have been very impressed with it so far. I had time past bought a Panasonic FX150 in December but returned it after 2 weeks due to horrible ISO400 carrying-on and too much noise on the lower ISO settings as well. I had high hopes for this camera as I wanted a camera that could complete good low light shots but thought something like the Panasonic LX3 was too big and too limiting with it's short zoom. Before customary into the many positives of this camera I want to express my only major negative with this camera and that is its ability to better the correct ISO setting for each shot. When shooting indoors in low to average light or when shooting with the sign the camera tends to choose a much higher ISO then needed resulting in shots with more noise then there should be. There is no object for an image stabilized camera to select ISO800 with a shutter speed of 1/80 or faster when there is no move in the frame. While this happens...
Depends on What You Necessity it For
I don't specify for this to be an in depth review. There are a lot of truly excellent in depth reviews posted here already.I followed this camera since spot and have been eagerly awaiting its release here in Canada. After about a week, though, it's going back. The big issues I have with the camera may not be of high-pitched priority to other people, but are particularly important to me. This camera, as others have said, is generally superb, and can take assuredly fantastic pictures with the best dynamic range available. And one other positive which is important to me but not mentioned by a lot of other population is the flash recycling time is quite good, maybe 2 seconds.Auto stainless balance is excellent too.My issues:* Because this is to be a family camera, it has to be easy to use without really being educated about its functions. The full coupй modes are not good enough - the EXR mode is loud and annoying, and both auto...
Champion Camera for IQ, What it is and What it Isn't
The transitory and sweet of it is this probably the sub-compact camera that will give you the best Image Quality (IQ) of any other camera in this type. I do not consider the Panny LX3 as being in this category as it is larger. If size is not an issue, then an interesting comparison can be strained whereby they both produce excellent output with their own pluses and minuses. But, the LX3 was simply too large for my uses. What it Is - This is a specialty condensed camera much like the F30 and F31fd before it. I owned both of those cameras. I call it "specialty" because you have to coax it a bit to get the best IQ from it, just like the F30 or F31fd. Equitable like the earlier Fxx series, you can't rely on "Auto" modes to yield the best pictures. This camera, valid like the earlier Fxx series, hikes the ISO way too much for the shot at hand in most cases. I believe that this was done to truly insure that no blurry pictures occur. Anyone with decent technique can take crystal...
