Some residents just LIVE to complain
First, I did not buy mine from Amazon, as a substitute for electing to get it instantly at Wal-Mart.I am also far from a camera expert. With that said, I was quite pleased with this camera, which was a mountainous upgrade over my old Kodak DC340.First, I REALLY like the generous 12x zoom with this camera, which enabled me to get exclude quality photos with good detail of two particular wary birds, a Bob White quail, and an Eastern Bluebird.I also found the conceive of stabilization feature useful for my less than completely still hands, and I need to reiterate that image stabilization has NOTHING to do with capturing a abstinence moving object, as Spacejockey seemed to believe. Also, far from being annoyed by the flash having a button to pop it up, I indeed like being able to manually disable flash by leaving the flash physically latched down in place of of having to mess around with menu controls to do it.I fail to see how this is a negative, Spacejockey.Likewise, I truly...
    Proficient travel camera
I have been a serious second-rate photographer for more than 20 years and have a large collection of cameras for my photography needs. I recently purchased my S1500 while traveling in Asia over the over and done with couple of weeks. I decided to leave my DSLR behind on this trip and had only packed my point-and-burgeon. After a few days, I realized that I needed more camera to capture the sights of Singapore, Indonesia and Australia. The Fuji S1500 seemed to fit the bill and was a comparable cost in Singapore to purchasing it here in the USA and had the zoom capabilities and other features I wanted in a compact camera.First use:I took the camera out for a walking junket in Singapore and captured some great shots in both SR Auto and P mode. Focus is sharp and the colors are huge. OK, so with outdoor daytime shots working, I thought I would try some night shots.I went to the top of the Swissotel in Singapore at gloom for some night landscape shots. I placed the camera...
An Overlooked Attractiveness for an Astounding Price
As an complete package, this camera is simply astounding. Besides a few minor flaws, you get a nearly perfect, influentially versatile camera with a fairly expansive feature set and good image quality for less than $200. What more can you ask for? Well, there are a few things, but let me first start with the pros...+ Admirable price. Obviously, getting this kind of technology for less than $200 is a rare find. Fuji somehow keeps prices at the low end of the spectrum, while managing to insist on quality.+ Good construction. This thing feels solid, and fits nicely in the hands. I don't have any qualms about discernible quality or cheapness; for $200, you'd be hard-pressed to find something with comparable materials and build calibre.+ Large feature set. The feature set really is as expansive as the description says. As mentioned before, some of them aren't rather as good as they sound, but that will be discussed next. I'm not a even nearly a professional...

    Customer Reviews

    Pronounced all-purpose zoom lens
I recently purchased SONY A700K, which is a A700 added SONY 18-70 zoom lens bundle. The bundled lens turned out to be a nightmare. So I purchased this SAL-1680Z. Do I like it? Let me chew out tattle on you.If you really really care about sharpness, resolution, MTF, then get multiple prime lenses. No zoom lenses contract any Minolta/Sony prime lenses in this category. But if you can compromise a little bit (just a negligible bit) and want some 5x zoom convenience, look no further. This lens gives you all. Yes it is not cheap for a digital-shape (1.5x FOV) lens, but in addition you get the "Zeiss" color: deep and classy. Is it perfect? No, it shows some vignetting when widespread open.Bottom line: If you have Sony Alpha 700 (or 100) and if you want a zoom lens which you can use on almost any position, save some money and get this.
    Sony SAL-1680Z Lens Re-examine
I have been an unskilful photographer for years, shooting with film cameras. When I purchased my old film camera, it came with an reasonable "kit" lens that did not perform to my expectations. I ended up having to buy a new (and better) lens for it.I recently purchased a Sony Alpha A100 digital camera with the 18-70 mm DT "kit" lens.Although the camera itself performs laudably, the included lens was not as sharp and crisp as I wanted or expected. So, as before with the film cameras, I purchased a better lens for the Sony Alpha - the SAL-1680Z 16-80 mm Carl Zeiss Zoom Lens. The lens is simply much better quality. It feels "tighter", and it's made in Japan rather than China. The lens is also heavier than ordinary "cheap" plastic lenses. Not "too heavy", but the kind of weight that says "quality".However, the big alteration came when I TRIED the lens and zoomed way into the resulting digital images. This lens is razor...
Matchless Zeiss Zoom Lens For Sony Alpha System
This is an rare zoom lens which owners of Konica Minolta Maxxum SLR cameras as well as Sony Alpha SLR cameras should strongly rate adding to their kits. I recently had the opportunity to use it at this year's Photo Plus East and was surely impressed with the extremely high color saturation and resolution of this lens, trying it with the trade-mark new flagship Sony Alpha 700 SLR camera. This lens is one of the reasons why I might consider adding the Sony Alpha system to my current camera kits; the others are the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 Planar and 135mm f1.8 Sonnar lenses. Property-wise, I think these lenses compare favorably with the late, lamented autofocus Contax N-mount Zeiss lenses (Like those lenses the new Sony Alpha Zeiss lenses are built in Japan under autocratic Zeiss quality control, using designs made by Zeiss at its Oberkochen, Germany headquarters, where some Zeiss lenses are still being made for the Zeiss Ikon ZM rangefinder camera system and the Hasselblad "V" series atmosphere...

Amazing image quality in a sleek and portable design!

He Points, He Shoots, He Scores!
The SD870 IS is about everything you could require in a compact point and shoot digital camera. It offers excellent image importance, a large vivid LCD display, intelligent defaults, fine low-light sensitivity, a stiff quality movie mode (with sound), an outstanding wide-angle lens and (most importantly for me) a photo collar speed that leaves many other digital cameras in the dust.I cover a fair amount of electronics selling shows such as CES and CEDIA for my home theater site (Big Picture Big Sound), so I need a camera that is instantaneous on the draw, has a good macro feature for close-ups, and has good low light sensitivity and zoom for mileage shots at press conferences. But portability is also key, as I need to carry the camera around in my pocket along with other gadgets for note-winning. I've owned a Canon S400 Digital Elph for a number of years, and it has served me well, but the lag time between pushing the shutter knob and actually getting a picture (particularly indoors)...
    Canon's excellent ELPH yet !!!
This camera replaced my trusty SD450. I loved the SD450, but I wanted to upgrade to something with portrait stabilization. To put it simply, the SD870 totally rocks! The 3" screen is beautiful to see. It's even viewable outside with bright sunlight shining directly on it. And the pictures this thing takes are totally gorgeous! They are sharp as a tack, and the colors are spot on. I have to say, the image stabilization really makes a big inequality, particularly when you are shooting in low light. I also like the new, wide-angle lens. It really comes in clever when taking group shots or shooting in close quarters. The only negative I can come up with is the dearth of an optical viewfinder. I guess this is a sacrifice you have to make in order to get a screen this big on such a small camera.Pros:Bitter photos with great color saturationOptical image stabilizationSpeedy shot-to-shot stretch for an ultra-compactBright 3" screen that's easy...
Ardour the wide angle lens and big LCD
This is my 3rd digital camera and the first that didn't call for studying the manual to figure out which buttons and submenus to use for various functions. I've had the 870 for a month and it's performed well in both sinister rooms and in bright outdoor light. The shutter delay in daylight shots is inconsequential and a big improvement over previous cameras. The movie function is also pretty cool. Battery viability is great and the intuitive menu and symbols on the large LCD don't require magnifying glasses to study. But my favorite feature is the wide angle lens--the advantage was really obvious when comparing assort shots from other point-and-shoot ultracompacts at 2 birthday parties. My only disappointment are the flimsy soft doors for the battery and USB port (why I only give it 4 stars). These items are what broke on my Optio S and forced me to away it after 2 years of light use. I'll be babying these doors with the hope that I don't lose my $400 investment in the coming-term.... The LCD and...
