It in truth works and that's a surprise
With a extensive history of many failed attempts at IP wireless cams, Linksys creates what others could not; one that works.Configuration with WEP was tolerably easy. It's a little temperamental with distance compared to the tolerances of other G devices, but it works. It does not reply well to low light levels and tries to compensate via its own gain. If you are using this in a home without AMPLE sun-up, expect a grainy picture.Frame rate is about 20FPS and is annoying. The security feature works. It senses move and mails a captured video file. With only 4 seconds at the medium setting, the video images were over 500Kb. This is not for a dial-up AOL consumer.There is a remote viewing option that lets you use their web servers to hit your cam from anywhere. Of course expect to pay about $40 for two years permission.

Update: 28 Trek 2005: Comparing two web cameras. I originally bought the Linksys WVC54G and now have the Hawkings NC320W. Both are very good for senior monitoring purposes. I now favour web cameras which use Java applets (NC320W) instead of ActiveX (WVC54G). There are situations and browsers that simply can't use ActiveX and thus can't flash images. The quality of both web cams is suitable for senior monitoring. Expect image eminence to fall off in low light. The WVC54G has a wider field of view. This can be important in situations where you'll have to buy two NC320W to see everything whereas only one WVC54G is needed. I am now using three NC320W and viewing using Firefox browser. Threat: setting up a router to handle multiple web cameras needs a near router dexterous. The NC320W may soon become obsoleted by the newer and cheaper HNC230G (not released as of this date). Works slender if you are careful and methodical!
[Bowdlerize]Ok, 3 weeks after setting these cameras up, I do have a few negative comments. The cameras will sometimes spontaneously block working. I haven't been able to figure out why. I'm on the other side of the country from them now so I can't physically see them. Eventually they come back online. All 3 are very recently sitting there plugged in, in an empty house.The video is fairly choppy if sound is enabled, even at 320x240.The lighting plays a gargantuan role in the quality of the image - bright sunlight in a window makes the image almost unusable. Here's the dope: I was rather concerned about reading the wide range of ratings on this camera, seeing that there were some one star reviews expectations in, so I was fully ready to return this puppy if it didn't live up to my pretty high standards.That said, here is my go through:I have a Linksys Dual Band Wireless N Router running in a single level ranch about 50 yards from some euphonious serious power lines. Linksys WVC80N is a colossal camera!
We've been using the WVC80N camera for a while on our up on network with a Linksys WRT350N router. The WVC80N is the next generation IP camera from Linksys. It's older similar looking twin the WVC54GCA is good but had some issues that the WVC80N solves. You can see reviews of the WVC54GCA cam at myhomeserver.The WVC80N adds Wireless N, an easier sting for Remote Viewing and best of all, direct writing to a NAS drive to record video! This means you don't have to keep a computer contest, simply setup a shared folder on your NAS/Network drive and then add in the path,username and open sesame into the camera and that's it! It will instantly start recording a AVI file to the drive directly that you can play in Windows Media sportswoman, etc.Remote access is also better since it is now included as an option in the CD wizard. Facts but not without flaws
Linksys WVC80N cam reassessment:Positives:Supports 640x480 resolution at up to 30FPS. Don't buy an ip cam that doesn't support 640x480 (i.e. some of the Panasonic ones)The low put a match to level performance is good. This cam claims to have a better CMOS sensor that the previous exemplar but it's still not all that great in low light (if you want good images in low light you need an IP cam with a CCD sensor but this adds expense and complexity). This is not a Day/Night cam that has infrared LEDs that provide illumination in completely dark areas. (You poverty to have some level of lighting, and the more the better). Bigger than it looks.
The statue quality of this camera isn't great, and as the other reviewer states, it needs lots of light. The resolution of the video is properly poor, comparable to a very cheap 4-year-old webcam. If you need to see detail in the image (e.g. for certain guarding-camera purposes), then it will not work.Another thing to note is that this camera is much bigger than it looks--it is about the size of your hand. I was hoping to wrest it into a tight space, but the camera's size took me by surprise. It will be difficult to hide this camera if you are hoping to use it for recondite security purposes.In sum, if you need a cheap camera that can sit out in the open and take low-detail video of a well-lit room, then this is your product. Otherwise, you should look for more efficient (or wired) cameras.

Only ActiveX? Are you kidding?
Linksys seems to be living in the last decade. This camera can only be observed remotely with an ActiveX effective browser, in other words, Internet Explorer.What this means: NO Macintosh, NO Firefox, NO Flock...To make it worse, the ActiveX dominate has an expired certificate, which means you can't install it without tweaking the default security settings in the browser.Into on Linksys, you can do better!!!! How about Flash based video, or quicktime, or Windows Media Video? ActiveX is a affair of the past.
Immobilized webcam
I bought this based on my experiences with linksys products, but this is a music of junk. It only works with activex with internet explorer, and only works over the internet with linksys' ddns service (free for ninety duration and after that you pay for the life of the product). Doesn't work with IE7. Very sorry I bought it.

Inordinate Camera for $100 don't be misled by others on here.
I bought this camera 2 weeks ago and put it above my front entry looking out onto my walkway and street and it works great. It's 802.11 G/B so it scales back if you have only a B access nub. It takes good 640/480 up to 30 frames per second video. It's got a couple of low light enhancements you can time on which work pretty well. DONT be disappointed if it can't see in the dark it's NOT a night vision camera. However... I don't yet be acquainted with if it can see IR. I guess I need to get out a remote and see what happens.So a few people posting reviews have said it's not light to setup. Not True!! I guess if you don't know anything about home networking, port forwarding, or WIFI then yeah of way it's going to be hard to setup. But don't come bashing the product just because you lack the skills to set it up correctly. Now I will divulge I'm a IT professional and make a living doing so but, anyone with basic networking skills should be able to get this camera working in 10...
Nice camera, terrible software.
We purchased this camera for pledge reasons.The good:The network setup was fairly straightforward, I did one camera via the included Linksys software and one by accessing the cameras firmware as soon as. The camera's have fixed-focus, so if you're taking pictures through a window, it's nice to know that the camera won't focus on glare in the window in place of of the area of interest. The camera's mount is adjustable and has screw mount points so you can fasten it to where you need. The see in the mind's eye quality is OK, we only expected basic video quality, not high-def, that would take too much storage capability for video capture. The carriage capture function for video is a nice addition, though there are some issues with that.The software allows you to monitor multiple feeds, and via the camera's firmware, allows you to set up mobility capture, and FTP or email setup so that you can view your video from anywhere you have internet access. This is a outstanding camera - even on an all Mac System
I bought this having had a microscopic experience setting up a Panasonic webcam. With that bit of knowledge, I was able to set this up in 10-15 minutes. I have use OS X and an Airport Hidebound router. To set up this camera with a Mac - you will not be able to use the software disc that comes with the camera (unless you have Windows on you system - I have too much pride for that).The vital setup is to plug in the camera to the router with the Cat 5 cable. Now the trick is to find out what address the router gave to the camera. Look on the back of the camera to find the MAC give a speech to. Now open Airport Utility>Manual Setup>Advanced>Logging &SNMP>Logs&Statistics>DHCP Regulars. Now you see a list of IP addresses and MAC addresses. Look for the Mac address that matches the sticker on the back of your camera. That is the IP address for your camera.Now you pattern 'http://' followed by the IP address of your camera into your browser. You will find the camera and use...

Insignificant picture, Internet Explorer only
Even on IE the personification is tiny and grainy. We have to leave a light on in the room, even during the day to see anything, so apparently the lens requires a lot of lantern.The Windows requirement is not just for the setup wizard like some other Linksys products; it requires Internet Pioneer to view the picture, so don't plan on sharing the video with any Mac or Linux users.Setup and connection are clear though and the motion sensor and alert features are helpful. I just think that there are cameras out for half the expenditure, so I'll try another model next time.

Unlimited image convenient network attached camera at reasonable price
I bought DCS910 in Nov.2008 and DCS920 one month later. I am totally satisfied with both of them and I did not meet any problem till now, or say I could solve the problems that I have found.The network attached camera supports up to 640x480 in pledge. It is higher then lots of other network attached camera which has only 320x240. So the image quality is very good. It has good vision in dim light. you could see image or video on your web browser. It supports both MS ActiveX and Sun Java for electrified video monitoring but it does NOT support sound :(You may need to install ActiveX control stopper-in and Sun Java plug-in for your browser to support live video.The supplied DViewCam software also supports monitoring up to 32 cameras and you could not for publication videos into computer hard disk. I have not used video record feture till now because it requires turning on computer and consumes too much router/exchange band width. I think check from web from time to time is good...

Works glaring with Macs
I have several cameras from separate vendors I use as part of a home security system. I'm using with Macs running OS X and wanted to comment on how these effort with this setup.The requirements for these cameras do not list OS X as an option, but they will work once you know a few things. First, the software that comes with the cameras for snare and monitoring IS only for windows. To use to OS X I did the following:1. Connect an ethernet cable between the mac and camera and make unfaltering your network settings are using ethernet.2. Go to your web browser and enter the address [192 dot 168 dot 0 dot 20]. This is the non-performance address for this camera.3. Enter "admin" with no password and you are now in the camera setup page.4. I would then reset the dealing out password, enter any login accounts you want, set up the wireless login (works sheer with Airport Extreme) and finally, I usually change the network setting on the camera to a default IP approach devote. Over the last 4 years, this is my fourth D-Join wireless Camera. I started with the DCS-900W which was a 802.11b camera.I use the cameras to watch my three dogs while I'm away.The Pros: 1. The value is right, generally less than $100. 2. The picture quality during daylight is good (not V.Good, nor Matchless) 3. The speed this camera transmitts to my router is far faster than my other camera, a DCS-G900. (The DCS-920 position replaced my G900 a 802.11g) 4. I use the D-Upon Cam and like it a lot.
