Above average camera (compared to Panasonic TS3 or FT3)
I've been looking at waterproof and fibrous camera for over a year now... and I eventually chose this one!About me: I'm a techie, over 20 years in photography (started at cock crow), played with very many DSLR and compact cameras. I buy best-of-breed and I'm not very brand loyal (SLR I've acclimated to/owned include: Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Canon; Compact camera I've used/own: Canon, Panasonic, Olympus, and now Nikon).I did a lot of examination (including Canon, Pentax, Olympus) and eventually narrowed down to: Panasonic TS3 (aka FT3 in Europe), Nikon AW100, Sony TX10** Sony TX10 - I attachment its image sensor, its rugged yet sleek ultra compactness. Unfortunately the lack of GPS killed it. For an all-weather sports camera, you foresee to travel everywhere and often in areas you find difficult to mark on Google Maps.** Panasonic TS3 vs Nikon AW100 - There are many forum that liken the specs of these two cameras so I won't bore you. Both have great specs for a...
Wonderful Camera for Out of doors Use
I have had this camera a few existence now and have been very impressed with the tests I've put it through thus far. This camera does everything Nikon says it will and does them all wonderfully.Overall BuildThis is a selfish camera in your hands which is a good and bad thing. It's great because it means it's easy to slip in your pants or shirt cluster and always keep with you. It weighs little enough that you hardly notice it's there. I see where some people could see this as an issue because the buttons on it are very small in pronouncement to have the back LCD as large as possible. It does not feel cheap even though it's made out of plastic and although I don't plan on doing a fall test, I am confident it would survive a drop from chest high.Picture QualityWith an 8GB SD in the offing I don't see a reason to shoot at any other setting than the highest resolution, so all my playing around with it was done at this setting. The JPEGs that Loosely transpire b emerge out look great. The...
Horrific photos, great video, somewhat difficult to use.
I show to replace my point-n-shoot about every 3 years. I normally shoot a Nikon D90 but last year upgraded to a D7000.[UPDATE Feb 2012] The primary camera was replaced by Nikon since it failed on the 2nd use in water. This one worked through our Caribbean holiday for 4 full days before it started overheating and would not keep in off. It stayed on until the battery drained. Leaving it "sit overnight" and then removing and recharging the battery got it working again, however I could discern the heat the longer it was in use.The disappointing thing is this camera takes such great photos and now that we got it to travail underwater, we know it takes fairly good underwater photos and video. But there's something go downhill with either its design or the manufactured batch that we received. Had it too long to return to Amazon for a refund, so I'm very likely going to send it a 2nd time back to Nikon. Note their repair service is great, but you have to be proactive and keep abreast of up or...

L100 - Passionate Camera All Around, Especially for Beginners
After wide-ranging research on advanced point-and-shoots that use AA batteries (something I require), I settled on three: the Nikon L100, the Canon Powershot SX10IS, and the Fujifilm s8100fd. So you be versed the perspective from which this review is coming, I'm not an experienced photographer but I'm not clueless either. However, this is my first camera more advanced than a key point-and-shoot. So I'll call myself an informed beginner. This is why I chose the L100:COST: The L100 is significantly less up-market than the SX10IS. The s8100fd's price was comparable to the L100, but I felt that the technology on the L100 was better. Amazon had the best bib price I could find (besides some sketchy online sellers).TECHNOLOGY: This was a toughy. All three of these cameras have comparable technology (facsimile stabilization, zoom, megapixels, face recognition, scene modes, etc. etc.) and each has one or two unique features that I found very inviting. So this...
    Cyclopean camera for long-distance shots!
I first and foremost purchased this camera because I love my smaller Nikon Coolpix 7600 but wanted something with more zoom. I've only had this camera for about a week, but its considerable so far!I do see the "focusing problem" someone was talking about, but its not really a problem...Its just that you can't zoom in too closely on something if you are regular close to it - I think this is because of the lens type - its for long distances. But if you choose the macro placement specifically for close-ups, this can also be avoided. When I first got the camera and took it out of the box, I immediately started taking pictures and they weren't imminent out so good, but this was because I didn't know how to make the flash work - you have to raise it by hand - a swift check of the manual revealed this, but I was too anxious in the beginning to stop and read the manual. ;-)Also, I had anxiety getting used to choosing the different scene settings becuase it doesn't have a...
It DOES use a rechargeable battery-operated!
I intention I would emphasize the rechargeable battery since Nikon just added it recently and some reviewers were saying the L100 couldn't use a rechargeable mobile. It's a NI-MH battery with recharger. Check the NIKON webpage for the L100 and you will see it listed under "optional accessories". As an individual, I don't like rechargeables because they lose their charge over time and you have to remember to recharge them when you get ready to use your camera. I'd much rather fair pop in a set of alkaline AA's. Then battery cost is about a penny a pic. I can afford that. Here are the reasons I bought this camera. I use it to do sojourn-motion shooting in the woods using toy action figures, also on a copy stand to specimen greaseboard drawings for animation, and just for general photo shooting. This camera helps because:(1) It has a steppes bottom and with a triangular footprint which means it will not fall over when you set it down. No tripod needed. I put a flat piece of wood...

    By far the overcome choice!
For anyone looking at getting a nice, mid-level point-and-shoot with the look and feel of an SLR, the Nikon Coolpix L120 is by far the best choice, even with its few shortcomings! As a semi-masterly photographer who primarily shoots film (but is slowly converting to digital) I always have kept at least a digital P&S camera with me to get those "far-sighted" shots that I can't get because of the time involved in setting up the shot in an SLR. My previous camera, the Minolta DiMAGE S414 had been getting prolonged in the tooth and was starting to glitch. A friend gave me his Nikon Coolpix E5200 and I was immediately hooked on Nikon's famous imaging quality. However, the 5-megapixel sensor in the Coolpix E5200 was short of what I truly needed, so the same compeer who gave me the E5200 also let me try out his Coolpix L110. I was blown away with how well the photos turned out! In my quest to buy my own Coolpix L110, I had heard back in February that Nikon was releasing the Coolpix...
A stout performer with some minor quirks
I purchased the Nikon L120 about a month ago in preparation for a flounder we were taking to California. Although I was impressed by several of the features I read about, such as the extended zoom and pseudo-dslr conceive, I still had some concerns about a couple of features such as the complaints about focusing and lack of manual controls. After shooting about 200 pictures, I am in seventh heaven to report that I will be keeping the camera.I'll address my concerns about the reported concerns others expressed. First was the regard over focus. At one point, the camera was having trouble focusing on a shot of the sea and horizon. Everything was hazy and only items within 20-30 ft. would be in focus. I tried several different modes, including landscape and strand, but it did not cure the problem. At that point, I decided to just turn it off and turn it back on and that solved the refractory. There must be some issue with the algorithms which pick certain items to focus, but the old "off...
Loved it - but returned it
Bought this camera and loved the quiet of operation and picture quality. I also have the Panasonic DMC-FZ35, which is VERY complicated. I needed something simpler. I well-educated to use this Nikon after only 1 hour of reading the manual (compared to months still trying to figure out the Panasonic). Was effortlessly getting great pictures. Smile detection and Pet mode worked terrific. Unfortunately, my instruct reason for this type of hybrid camera, is for the convenience of camera and HD video in one unit. Video distinction on this unit is well below average. I compared it to my Panasonic - no comparison. The Panasonic's video was smooth and starkly, the Nikon - grainy and jerky. I really wanted to keep this camera for it's ease of use and picture quality, but the slipshod video quality ultimately caused me to return it. Until I find an easy to use camera with good visualize and video, I'll continue with the months of trying to figure out the Panasonic.PROS: Ease of use, excellent pictures, smile...

    Admirable Camera for the Investment
Persons, this purchase came after 3 solid days of research using everything from Amazon, CNet, Infosyncworld, to YouTube. You are here, reading reviews, as I was at the genesis of my search for a great quality digital camera that was neither high-end nor cheap. Let me begin by saying that I upstanding purchased this camera and have not gone over extensive testing myself, but rest assured that you should NOT take Amazon.com reviews for digital cameras (and a lot of other things for that meaning) as the gospel. Why? Because too many people come on here, bashing good equipment when the vast majority of the in the good old days b simultaneously it is user error. Please, do yourself a favor and do research using professional analysis by people that exam these things out and that take pictures and video that you can see for YOURSELF.I ignored all of the reviews that didn't specifically point towards any breed of systematic malfunction and that solely complained about image quality or other things that are easily...
    Great Camera
Now I'm no mavin photographer, but I am picky about how my pictures look. I have a good eye, and can be very anal about details in my photos. I've seen this camera get some bad reviews lately, and I am extremely perplexed by this. I looked at lots of other cameras. some costing more and some less. This was by far the best point and shoot cavity-able mega zoom out there, I thought. I read some negative reviews about sluggish indistinct and blurred images from here and from Best Buy's web site. I don't know if a bad batch of cameras went out? I did have some core issues right out of the box when I started using the camera; but after inspecting the camera I noticed a exacting big greasy finger print right on the lens. I'm pretty sure it wasn't from me, but I wouldn't bet my time on it though. After cleaning the lens, I have had no focus issues. The only thing I can say about the focus is that when indoors, sometimes you need to take a speed up a go outside back and use more zoom to get focus lock, and...
    Nikon S9100 450mm zoom camera 12mp
The S9100 is the perfect weight and feel for a pocket camera. It looks to be all plastic, but the type of plastic and the quality of the physique makes it look and feel like the best small cameras made these days. Startup previously is about one second, and going from minimum zoom to maximum zoom takes about two seconds. Idol quality is very good for a camera with a 1/2.33-type sensor, but certain very fine workings like hair, or a bird's feathers in a low-contrast part of the bird's body may be smeared pretty. This is apparently caused by the noise reduction software in the camera, which can't be turned down or off. On the other hand, my Canon SX-210 (which I replaced with the S9100) does not convert noise much if at all, and the end result is a compromise between the two systems. I think the Nikon S9100 wins in that compromise though, since the images on average look beat than the SX-210's. Pocket cameras that have much larger sensors (and consequently much less zoom) can often...

Edited Study - Battery Door Problem
It is with pangs of conscience that I must edit my review on the Nikon L24.Because of a weak design on the battery cover door I cannot recommend this camera. However, I am leaving the starting review below this addition because everything I originally wrote about the operation still stands. The 1-star rating I'm now leaving reflects the scanty closure design and Nikon's refusal to replace the battery cover under warranty. The battery entryway cover on mine broke just like the others who have written about the L20 / L24 series Nikon cameras. My irregularity made itself known to me after 6 months of use. There was never any abuse, no drops, no bumps, camera was kept in a case except when I was engaging or transferring pictures. The lip on the inside of the battery door gave way as I was taking a picture - the entryway popped open and the batteries dropped at my feet. It took me a minute or two with reading specs to see exactly what happened and where the...
    Sizeable Compact Digital Camera
I purchased this camera for dexterous access during vacation and travel. Although the camera cannot zoom very far it still is a very good camera. Takes very settle pictures and can be slipped into your pockets very easily into my pocket. Transferring pictures is very easy impartial hook up the camera into the computer and click the you want and drag to the desktop. The only problem i have with the camera is that it has a distressing time focusing on small texts. For example i want to copy a receipt and send it to the maker it would come out blurry.Overall this is a great camera and i would highly recommend this for travel or for nimble takes
    Trash!
Bought this camera for my daughter. One month later, the battery-operated compartment door retention pins break, rendering the unit useless and there was no way to make inaccessible the door-not even with tape. I learned of this in July as she was away at school, but it is 'guaranteed' for 1 year! Yay! I followed Nikon's directions to come back to them. They advised me that they did not consider this covered as it was possible we may have dropped it or forced the door closed. I quietly explained that wasn't the case AND that we had a friend with the same camera and same problem! ALSO, you can read the reviews of this camera on individual sites (or the L-22) to see that it's a common gripe. They would not fix it and wanted $93. After the postage/insurance to wind-jammer it to them, I could buy a new camera. But I will not ever buy another Nikon product. I am sticking with Canon as they have covered their product for me in the past OUT of warranty!!! You've been warned.

    Returned the LX5 & S95...kept the P300
Over the last four of weeks I've bought all three, returned the Canonand Panasonic. Here's my opinion (again this is mostly opinion, notfact):- P300 and S95 are almost the rigorous same size, LX5 was too big (i.e., toothick for a pocket)- P300 and LX5 both have direct video record buttons- LX5 and S95 both offshoot RAW (wasn't a factor for me, but may be foryou)- All three have great picture quality (1. P300, 2. S95, 3. LX5)- Two have tremendous video quality, S95 is just OK (1. LX5, 2. P300, 3. S95)Because I have an SLR for high-quality pictures, I equitable want a portablep&s for when I don't feel like carrying an SLR. That factor hurt theLX5, which I attentiveness was the best camera, just not pocketable. The LX5 had great video, really fast focusing (for pics and vid), andstrong strengthen quality. It's JPEGs were the worst of the three, but thirdbest in this class is generally better than 1st place...
Leave out low-light pictures and HD video!
Note: this commentary is for the layman--who wants to eventually learn to use manual features--but ends up using only van-mod, so all you pros please don't make too much fun of me.I'm a father of a 2-year-old and I take lots of indoor shots and tons of video clips. My almost 3-year-old camera was a Canon SD790IS: 10 MP, 640p video (Yes, very low relentlessness but it never lost focus!), mono microphone.Question: Is it too much to ask for a camera with great low-moonlight abilities, Full HD video, a stereo microphone, and no removable lens cover? Apparently the sponsor was YES!I bought a Canon SD4000IS but returned it because it couldn't hold a focus in HD video set-up. Not even on stationary objects using a tripod! Ridiculous! My online search continued with verdict cameras that had good video but too many megapixels (above 12 MP is bad) for a point-and-shoot, which made the pictures worse!I keenly awaited the reviews for the Canon SX230...
If video as well as stills are signal to you
"Should I buy this camera?" is like asking "Should I buy this car?" The serve to both questions is: It depends on what's most important to you. For me, I was looking for a point-and-shoot that takes good HD video as well as ethical still photos, and is reasonably small, light and affordable. I already have a DSLR, and wanted a camera to perfection that -- one I could slip in a pocket and take to the beach or an evening out without having to worry about it.I believe other commenters that there are P&S cameras out there that take more wisely photos than the P300, but those models are either considerably larger and heavier, a good deal more costly (one comment here compared a camera costing $500 with this one at slightly over $300), or the video worth is unacceptable. After a lot of research, the P300 turned out to be the camera that best met my needs.I've only had this for a couple of life, but here's what I like so far:* Nice ergonomics. I enjoy...
