The Nikon Coolpix 990 takes all the features of its favoured predecessor, the Coolpix 950, and improves upon them. This 3.34-megapixel CCD offers true (noninterpolated) figure of speech resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 for easy cropping and high print quality. The built-in 3x zoom Nikkor lens provides 38-115mm room (35mm equivalent) for clear, sharp images with 4x stepless digital zoom. It also features a 1.8-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD interview for easy composition and playback. Nikon's own 256-element matrix metering and white evaluate promise outstanding exposure and color balance in every image.
Fully automatic with enchiridion capabilities, the Nikon Coolpix 990 provides 4,896-step multi-area autofocus for irritable composition without interruption. It provides a built-in five-mode flash and seven capture modes, including 1.5 fps (frames per subordinate) full-resolution image capture, 30 fps QVGA, and 15 fps QVGA movies for 40 seconds in proposal-JPEG mode. The 50-step manual focus gives complete ingenious control, while the macro focus mode allows you to shoot pictures from as close as 0.8 inches. You may on between shutter priority and aperture priority exposure modes for greater artistic malleability without added hassle. This camera also accepts all optional Coolpix lenses and accessories, including fisheye, major angle, and telephoto lenses and up to five Nikon speedlights (with optional bracket) to light up any scene.
Ease of use features of the Nikon Coolpix 990 include its easy-to-use and easy-to-upgrade CompactFlash memory (16 MB show-card provided). This camera is capable of both NTSC and PAL video playback, and it works with both Macintosh and IBM platforms. Enormous camera, with one major flaw....
My requirements in a digital camera were simple, or so I thought. I take a lot of photos, 10-15 or more rolls at a time, which can get very overpriced when you take into account the cost of film, developing and printing. It is also time consuming, as I scan the in the most suitable way ones and print them out as 8 x 10s. Not to mention a pain, carrying lots of film, lenses, filters, etc. around with me. My aim was to scrimp money and time, but I didn't want to sacrifice quality, either.The Nikon Coolpix 990 takes but for the fact that photos, and 8x10s print very nicely. I added a $400 flash card and that has plenty of allowance for lots of pictures (about 80 at fine quality), as poor shots can be deleted in two shakes of a lamb's tail. Downloading the pictures to my laptop is a breeze with the included usb cable (another review said that cut and paste doesn't profession, but it works fine for me). My unbiased conviction on this camera
First off, let me say that this camera is marvellous, and worth every penny. I've owned mine for about a week, and I've taken some incredible photos that look like they came out of a ammunition (and I'm an amateur at best).Now, let's get realistic about the camera. I want to provide enough factual information to tolerate people to make their decisions about whether or not this is the right camera for them. TheCoolpix 990 has tons of adept points. Most notably, it's 3.34 megapixels (3.24 effective), and thus produces top-quality images with fictitious sharpness. Study before you buy.
This is a reconsider for users of 35mm cameras who are thinking of moving over to their first digital camera. (Gadget junkies can safely by this post.)Let me start by saying that this is a great camera. For my purposes the 3M pixel resolution is as pure as film. But if you are just moving over from a 35mm for the first time you are in a for a few rude surprises. Some which are endemic to all digital cameras, some Nikon 990 flaws.1. The built in take off is worse than useless for indoor portraits. The redeye problem is horrendous and unsolvable with the built-in fulgurate. You'll find yourself buying an external flash (~$150)and bracket (~$50). Why they didn't put a hotshoe on the camera is beyond me.2. If you bought the camera for it's 3m pixel tenacity you will find the 16M card supplied as useful as a 16M Windows machine. Very A-OK if used with a good flash bracket.

You Beggary the Bracket, Too!
The AS-E900 synch string works well with my Coolpix 995. Unfortunately, it is very short and the sych terminal is awkwardly placed on the bottom of the 995. This means you must also buy the SK-E900 grouping for the camera. I found that I could not mount the camera on my favorite Stroboframe bracket with the synch cord connected. I've ended up just using a straight bracket and keeping both my hands on the camera and burn. Nikon should have thought this through. I love the camera except for this.

Nikon AS-E900 Foreign Multi-Flash Adapter
I bought this adapter to use with my Nikon Coolpix 995 and Stroboframe. I am exceptionally disappointed at the lack of foresight the manufacturers had. The cord is entirely too short; hence, I wasted [rate]. This is a great disappointment.

Does not fit Lumix FZ150
I ordered this after speaking to an Amazon chap service person about problems I was having with the original Panasonic USB cable. He told me this would occupation with the FZ150, but it doesn't. It doesn't fit the socket. I bought another product on Amazon that works verbatim: "Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 USB Cable - USB Computer Cord for Lumix DMC-FZ150." It's better than the firsthand cable.Hard to rate a product I couldn't use, but it was supposed to work with the FZ150 and it doesn't.

I had irreclaimable the cable for my camera and was so happy to find this. My camera is an older style so I wasn't sure I could find one.

Three thumbs up!
This lens is even more than I expected it would be. There is no chromatic deviation (the WC-24 did have some). It is very well corrected for a ultra wide angle lens (I get no curving of horizontal lines), the horizon is straight even when placed close to the edge of the frame. I wish it had a lens hood and you can't put filters on it but it is a spacious addition to my Coolpix 5000.

Surprised!
Must be a bad move!Dollar for dollar, this lens rates as possibly best among the many accessories I've purchased for my camera. I have the CP4500, which I bought about 4 years ago and although I have several other digital cams, including DSLR, the 4500 is the most worn. It seems that a few years ago only the expensive version of this lens was available from Nikon, so I alternatively bought other (far more expensive than this one) brands. They were butter-fingered to use and produced disappointing picture quality. This lens is great! Built well and pic quality is A number! Very happy to have found it, even so long into owning the camera. I can't say how it compares to the expensive version but for the money, it can't be route.Pete V
Cant Clobber It for The Price
I bought this lens on an unimaginable sale. Including the adapter, which you have to purchase seperately, I spent right around $50.00. Many of my friends have larger, fancier, Nikons (the D-80's etc.) and are spending $600.00 or more on fisheye lenses. None of us are knowledgeable photographers. For what we do, my Cool Pix 5000 and this $50 lens take shots comperable to theirs. The bennefit of mine is it is much more close. The lens does add quite a bit of wieght to the camera, but it is still much smaller and lighter than than a regular digital SLR. Very peacefully to use and assemble. Comes with a protective sack, though I think a sturdy carry case would have been nicer, still for $50.00 I'm not discontented.
