Customer ReviewsStraddles the stripe between point & shoot and DSLRUPDATE: 1/11/2011 - Because there are so many comments asking the same without a doubt I decided I should add this to the beginning to save you agony. This camera is poor in low-light and not the greatest for fascinating shots of kids running around or in situations where you need to quickly take multiple shots. Having said that, this camera has an wholly amazing zoom, optics are top notch, macro mode is incredible and great video recording is practical as well. I've taken thousands of beautiful photos with this camera. You need to work with this camera and it will pay you handsomely. But read through as many comments as you can because there is a lot of discussion that may interest you. And now on to my original review...I have two types of cameras that I in the main use, small point & shoots, like the Canon ... Moderate to use and fast camera. Cool pics! I bought the L110 for the major purpose of taking pictures of my two kids. They are not still subjects and the L110 is doing a great job in keeping up the determine with them. It pops-up in like 2 seconds and is shooting rounds of pictures at max resolution (12.1). That's for fly.Wide angle and super-zoom are in the manual. What is impressive is that at max zoom (digital zoom included) - with no tripod - I get to take sarcastic pictures. That's for image stabilization. After ~500 pics and ~30 min of HD video, the original AA Energizer Furthest Lithium batteries are still fully functional. No warning yet.----Later edit. I took around- 1100 pictures with the source AA Energizer Ultimate Lithium (L91-FR6) batteries ([...]).- 400 pictures with some alcaline AA Energizer (LR6-E91-AM3) batteries ([...])- 500 pictures / recharge with some rechargeable Energizer AA 2450 mAh.All pictures were entranced at maximum resolution and the flash fired... Amazing little point and shoot!!! This is an shocking little point and shoot camera.I purchased it because I needed something that would take really nice photos but could be very likely slipped into my handbag whilst on vacation. My DSLR and lenses are a little bulky to be lugging around all day.My first choosing after reading tons of reviews was the Canon SX20, mainly because I really didn't shortage to sacrifice a viewfinder, plus it had the HD video capability. But I have to get a hands on the product first and no stores in our scope had one in stock. When I found the L110 was just being released I decided to give it a go....I have to admit I am impressed....this is a skilful little camera. I've read some reviews where people are dissapointed that there aren't any manual settings, but the many preset features are truly good for just about all conditions. One feature that I really like is the smart portrait locale - the camera will automatically shoot the pic when it detects a smile. Nikon Coolpix L100 10 MP Digital Camera with 15x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom
Details
DescriptionUp your range with Nikon’s Coolpix L100, with 10.0 effective megapixels with an incredible 15x optical Zoom-NIKKOR window-pane lens for stunning prints as large as 16x20 inches. The camera’s bright, 3.0-inch euphoric-resolution LCD lets you compose and share your pictures with family and friends. And with Nikon’s new 4 Way VR Image Stabilization takes mythical pictures, incredibly easy. Nikon’s New Smart Portrait System, which automatically detects your subjects veneer, takes a picture when they smile and warns you if they blinked.Customer ReviewsL100 - Monstrous Camera All Around, Especially for BeginnersAfter sizeable research on advanced point-and-shoots that use AA batteries (something I require), I settled on three: the Nikon L100, the Canon Powershot SX10IS, and the Fujifilm s8100fd. So you discern the perspective from which this review is coming, I'm not an experienced photographer but I'm not clueless either. However, this is my first camera more advanced than a primary point-and-shoot. So I'll call myself an informed beginner. This is why I chose the L100:COST: The L100 is significantly less precious than the SX10IS. The s8100fd's price was comparable to the L100, but I felt that the technology on the L100 was better. Amazon had the with greatest satisfaction price I could find (besides some sketchy online sellers).TECHNOLOGY: This was a toughy. All three of these cameras have comparable technology (Doppelgaenger stabilization, zoom, megapixels, face recognition, scene modes, etc. etc.) and each has one or two unique features that I found very charming. So this... Skilful camera for long-distance shots! I generally purchased this camera because I love my smaller Nikon Coolpix 7600 but wanted something with more zoom. I've only had this camera for about a week, but its eager so far!I do see the "focusing problem" someone was talking about, but its not really a problem...Its just that you can't zoom in too closely on something if you are level close to it - I think this is because of the lens type - its for long distances. But if you choose the macro surroundings specifically for close-ups, this can also be avoided. When I first got the camera and took it out of the box, I immediately started taking pictures and they weren't forthcoming out so good, but this was because I didn't know how to make the flash work - you have to raise it by hand - a hasty check of the manual revealed this, but I was too anxious in the beginning to stop and read the manual. ;-)Also, I had impregnated getting used to choosing the different scene settings becuase it doesn't have a... It DOES use a rechargeable mobile! I notion I would emphasize the rechargeable battery since Nikon just added it recently and some reviewers were saying the L100 couldn't use a rechargeable freestyle. It's a NI-MH battery with recharger. Check the NIKON webpage for the L100 and you will see it listed under "optional accessories". As for oneself, I don't like rechargeables because they lose their charge over time and you have to remember to recharge them when you get ready to use your camera. I'd much rather precisely pop in a set of alkaline AA's. Then battery cost is about a penny a pic. I can afford that. Here are the reasons I bought this camera. I use it to do suppress-motion shooting in the woods using toy action figures, also on a copy stand to reproduction greaseboard drawings for animation, and just for general photo shooting. This camera helps because:(1) It has a definitely bottom and with a triangular footprint which means it will not fall over when you set it down. No tripod needed. I put a flat piece of wood... |

A thorough performer with some minor quirks I purchased the Nikon L120 about a month ago in preparation for a slip of the tongue we were taking to California. Although I was impressed by several of the features I read about, such as the extended zoom and pseudo-dslr make, I still had some concerns about a couple of features such as the complaints about focusing and lack of manual controls. After shooting about 200 pictures, I am glad to report that I will be keeping the camera.I'll address my concerns about the reported concerns others expressed. First was the attention over focus. At one point, the camera was having trouble focusing on a shot of the sea and horizon. Everything was watery and only items within 20-30 ft. would be in focus. I tried several different modes, including landscape and lido, but it did not cure the problem. At that point, I decided to just turn it off and turn it back on and that solved the unmanageable. There must be some issue with the algorithms which pick certain items to focus, but the old "off... Loved it - but returned it Bought this camera and loved the manoeuvre of operation and picture quality. I also have the Panasonic DMC-FZ35, which is VERY complicated. I needed something simpler. I experienced to use this Nikon after only 1 hour of reading the manual (compared to months still trying to figure out the Panasonic). Was easy as can be getting great pictures. Smile detection and Pet mode worked terrific. Unfortunately, my first reason for this type of hybrid camera, is for the convenience of camera and HD video in one unit. Video distinction on this unit is well below average. I compared it to my Panasonic - no comparison. The Panasonic's video was smooth and crystalline, the Nikon - grainy and jerky. I really wanted to keep this camera for it's ease of use and picture quality, but the star-crossed video quality ultimately caused me to return it. Until I find an easy to use camera with good twin and video, I'll continue with the months of trying to figure out the Panasonic.PROS: Ease of use, critical pictures, smile... |
