Optics and Resolution The Coolpix 5400 uses a 5.1 effective-megapixel CCD to capture images at a pinnacle native resolution of 2,592 x 1,944 pixels. The camera incorporates a wide angle Zoom-Nikkor lens with a maximum optical zoom of 4x coupled with a stepless 4x digital zoom for a 16x unqualified zoom. The lens contains nine elements in eight groups, with the Zoom-Nikkor lens using Kicker-Low Dispersion (ED) glass and two aspherical lenses completing the setup. With a focal length traverse of 5.8 mm to 24mm, the 4x optical zoom is equivalent to a 28-116mm lens on a 35mm camera.
The camera has fifteen preset shooting modes for certainly shooting portraits, panoramas, landscapes, and many more. What can I say? I disposition the 5400! It is my second from the Coolpix series. My first was a CP 880 that took a fall so the 5400 was a replacement. It's well importance the money. I looked around a lot and couldn't find anything I liked from other manufacturers that packed the features and flexibility of the 5400.If you are a new digital alcohol, the auto mode and scene modes are great. I usually shoot in P or M modes and can ride the dial to Automatic mode and hand it to my wife who likes the ability to point and dart without thinking about adjusting anything. You can grow into this camera if you don't know yet how to shoot manually.The 15 numerous scene modes to choose from are excellent. The panoramic assist mode is particularly uninterested. You can shoot a panoramic horizontally, vertically or in a 360 degree circle. You take photos and then put them together after download with the ArcSoft software that comes with the camera. A digital tyro's impression: Very good, but not perfect
Although I have had years of savoir faire with conventional cameras in both 35mm and medium format, the Nikon Coolpix 5400 is the first digital camera I have owned. I had grown done in of traveling with a 35mm and several lenses, or even more bulky medium format cameras.Other reviewers have amply written about the features of this camera. I am active to focus on performance.The Coolpix 5400 has good optics. I have shot the equivalent of several rolls of cloud on it. The photos have been crisp, had faithful color rendition without any glaring digital artifacts, and in actuality don't need any software manipulation. So far, so good.All is not roses, however. The Coolpix 5400 is very, very, very slow in writing from the a/d converter to the flashcard. Fire off a assort of shots in continuous mode and get ready to wait. And wait some more. Smokers will have time for a cigarette or two; others could take a pocket bus ride or file their nails. It's that bad...

It's an ok packaged decamp of stuff
I also ordered this for the in the event that. I got a Nikon and needed something to protect it. This case is very basic. No strap or anything, basically a padded nylon fa with velcro closure to keep around your camera. It's well made and all that, just not elaborate. The tripod is tiny, maybe 3 inches multi-storey, but if you're looking to just stablize your camera, it'll do just fine. The other stuff is fine too. Nothing too astounding or noteworthy.I guess if I had it to do over again, I'd have gone for a more elaborate case. But that's personal preference. There is nothing wrong with the importance of the items in this bundle.

Astonishing performance on a lightweight package.
I got this camera back on July, its serial number is advantageous the range of the recall. But mine havent failed yet after 2 months of full time use.So I just wont send it to shape until it fails, crossing fingers here though. Anyway if it ever presents a problem I will just send it to Nikon since it has full warranty and Nikon's policies are to restore the unit no matter the time or when it fails, could be a lot of time, they will repair it fast for free.Ok now to execution, this camera performs as good as the D300 or D90 step up brothers IQ wise. High ISO playing is top notch, a few reviews over the net show that it has less noise than D300.This little consumer grade camera will do only just about everything than other more expensive DSLR's. Nikon D5000 vs Canon Flout, keeping it short ...
If you're looking at this camera, my conjecture is you've done your home work and figured out that if you want a good DSLR on a budget, your choice is comely much down to D5000 or Rebel.
