I by the skin of one's teeth bought this camera two days ago from a camera store (yes, of course it's cheaper here). I have four other cameras, two fade away (Nikons) and two digital (one Nikon and one Olympus), but I wanted something that I could fit in my purse or backpack. Many times I want to take pictures, but am too shiftless to carry my camera gear unless I'm planning a photo outing. This camera line for line fits into my jeans pocket so I will be able to carry it every day.So far I find the camera's menu systems are comparable to the menu on my other Nikon cameras (N80, D70). Attractive point and shoot for price, but has drawbacks
This is the first chance that I bought something new on the market. Typically, I buy something after it has been reviewed for at least 6 months, but I had to replace the "family point and open fire" before Easter. I was replacing my old Nikon Coolpix 5900 (which was a little bulky, but took FANTASTIC photos). I also loved the video importance. Complicated Package... Junky Pictures
I bought this camera after losing my Canon SD900 while on vaction at Disney In the seventh heaven in early December 2008. As with everything I review, I use an item for several months to truly evaluate how sensible it is after the "new" purchase feeling has died down and I want to evaluate performance and not emotions for my new toy.This camera is lucid to review. It is very well made. It is a good looking camera. You expect big things. But...What you get it is horrible images. I occupied it all through the Christmas and New Year holidays (2008) and was disappointed in its pictures. If this is your first camera in this arena you might not be gifted to tell and think the images look fine, maybe even great. However, owning several euphoric end DSLR's, and having used several "point and shoots" as quick grab backups, I can say the images aren't full. They are grainy. Trim features, mediocre picture quality
I bought this as a present for my wife to supplement a 4-year-old, bulky Canon A95 digital camera. First pictures looked okay but seemed to be missing some pellucidity. All photos were shot in Auto mode and were taken indoors. To rate the photo dignity, I took photos of the same object with the Nikon and with the old Canon. I imported the photos onto my laptop and split the concealment with the two adjacent images. I shot the photos in Auto with no zoom. The results were stunning. The Nikon photo were cream but not crisp. On the other hand, the Canon photo was extremely clean and detailed. We are returning the Nikon and buying another Canon.

Worth, easy to use!!
I bought this camera for my Mom as a birthday favour as she wanted something really simple. It's convenient to carry in your purse or pocket and comes with a 5x optical zoom. We have tried clicking assortment photographs over Christmas as well as shooting videos. Everything came out really well. Got no complaints whatsoever! This prototype however, doesn't come with an SD card, so buyers will have to buy that seperately.

My chain and I just recently replaced our Sony DSC-W5 (5 megapixel) camera with this one, and here are our impressions so far:1) The Anti-Puzzle AE is something new for us, as the DSC-W5 didn't have it. Actually, we would get blurry pictures all the time in low-light situations with the DSC-W5 (which did not have Anti-Quake AE), and the new Nikon L18 does not seem to have as much trouble as the old camera did. Low light pictures seem to come out great.2) This camera removed red-eye in the camera Unconsciously. You don't know how much of a time saver this is! I have enjoyed my Coolpix L18! It's a significant camera! I purchased it after purchasing the L14 as a gift for a family member and hearing the continuous 'bubbling' reviews about it. The L18 is undisturbed to use and also download your photos! Although I have had no problems with my L18, I have a word of CAUTION concerning Nikon- should you have any problems begin with their product, return it immediately!!! The Coolpix L14 Gift had an 'error' within the first 3 months. Following the troubleshooting directions, it appeared to reverse itself. Unfortunately, 5 months later the identical problem occurred again. This time I retrieved the facility and returned it for repair under its one year warranty. Nikon has failed to honor their warranty. We were, however, able to reach their concurrence to pay half of the original quoted repair cost. This was a stupendous camera, but unfortunately the key word is "WAS". I purchased the camera for general shooting, nothing pipedream, and it worked great. I replaced my Fujifilm FinePix with this Nikon Coolpix. I enjoy the thinner design, making it easier to keep in a unimportant purse. The red shell adds nothing to the photos, but I'll take that over a dull gray any day. Aside from aesthetics, there are many features filled to the gunwales into this stylish hardware, probably more than I've fully utilized. As with any digital camera, the most important attribute is point and shoot picture taking. Present THE MANUAL!!! This is a great camera if you learn how to use it correctly!
When I first turned on the camera and started compelling pictures, I too noticed the grainy quality of the pictures. Then I started reading the manual! What a eximious idea, huh? It has different "scenes" in which you can choose whatever current situation you are in while taking the picture. If you leader-writers the scene button, you can select up to 18 different scenes in which to take your pictures. You can choose anything from museum (no scuttle)and sporting events, to candlelight/parties and fireworks! All you need to do is select what's right for the spot you're in. You can also select auto scene where the camera will automatically select which scene it thinks you're in. This is a smashing camera!! I love being able to turn my photos to black & white and sepia, and forget about little notes on them. You can also record messages to go with your pictures! Formidable compact camera with quality pictures
I purchased this camera for my daughter to refund a beat up 5MP pocket camera (Samsung) that used batteries up like no tomorrow. It was a qualified little camera but it was time for an upgrade for her. At 16 years old it was time for her to have an update for fascinating snapshots of family and friends and to give her the ability to document our many family vacations. I own a Nikon DSLR that is up in the 1,000 to 2k dollar roam and it gets frequent use and has been quite durable. The issue with it is size. This camera is no where near as radical as my DSLR but it is quite competent for a camera in its price range.For those critics out there who have had issues with notion quality READ THE OWNERS MANUAL!! This is a very easy camera to use right out of the box but to get the most out of it you need to determine the right mode for the type of photo you are taking. Hardly what I wanted
I bought this camera as a brainless surrogate to my full-featured high end DSLR. Guess which one comes with me everywhere? It's so easy to shoot with this little take camera, and so guiltless. Easy to use, small and convenient. I have no issues with the image quality. Then again, I cognizant of what the high end looks like, so maybe my expectations are more reasonable. You gets what you pays for - and I like it a lot.

I bought the Nikon Coolpix 7900 for my helpmate and daughter. We couldn't be happier about it.I have a Minolta Dimage A2 which is larger, heavier and more expensive and has a lot of vade-mecum adjustment capability. A small part of my almost regrets lugging the A2 around because the Nikon is so small and light and performs so well.It has been complete so far for any sort of snapshot we've used it for. If exclusively taking snapshots was all I did, I would definitely replace my A2 with one of these. I'm keeping and long-term to use the A2 because of hobby non-snapshot photography, but will be borrowing the Nikon from my wife and daughter for anytime I need a express, easy camera for snapshots on the go.One note: We had a Nikon Coolpix 3200 which we enjoyed very much. The 7900 is a nice upgrade from that. The only dissatisfying change for us from the 3200 to the 7900 is that the 3200 uses AA batteries while the 7900 requires a dearest rechargable...

Giant Upgrade Camera - very few trade-offs
I have years of photography savvy and teach a digital photography continuing ed. class in our local junior college. I've acquainted with the Sony DSC-P9 camera for the last few years. I was looking at the P100 or 200 as an upgrade option.The put and style of the camera and its price first caught my eye. I compared it to a very similar camera that was $200 higher but with small extra features. I chose this one.After reading these reviews about the complaints over focus in low light I became distressed and started shooting around my house (with regular 40watt ceiling fan lights). The results are as expected - the camera did good-looking. The major problem when shooting in low light is certainly shutter speed. You'll never be able to go on about a camera still enough for 15th of a second shots. (30th of a second only if the subject and you are still) The camera obviously gives precedency in several of its scene settings to image density, sacrificing shutter speed for capturing...

After using a Nikon N75 for 2 years and being bloody pleased with it I decided I needed something a little smaller for play/work to pack around with meFirst impressions of the camera are very complete, it fits my hands quite nicely, which is often an issue because most digicams dont fit my hands very well.The 2" interview is very nice and smooth when panning around a scene and works well in direct sunlight, I can actually see it (compared to a Canon A80 which i cant see anything in the sun)The camera starts up very hastily (after diabling the animation) so that is nice for being able to snap pics. About $150. Which impressively renders your camera worthless.
IF you didn't cause this lens error (theoretically possible I suppse) then it's a guarantee matter.

lens is "perverse" was dropped and then the error message came on. all else is good.
Lens errors are impartially common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been stopped preventing its extension.
