L100 - Talented Camera All Around, Especially for Beginners
After national research on advanced point-and-shoots that use AA batteries (something I require), I settled on three: the Nikon L100, the Canon Powershot SX10IS, and the Fujifilm s8100fd. So you understand the perspective from which this review is coming, I'm not an experienced photographer but I'm not clueless either. However, this is my first camera more advanced than a central point-and-shoot. So I'll call myself an informed beginner. This is why I chose the L100:COST: The L100 is significantly less overpriced than the SX10IS. The s8100fd's price was comparable to the L100, but I felt that the technology on the L100 was better. Amazon had the wealthiest price I could find (besides some sketchy online sellers).TECHNOLOGY: This was a toughy. All three of these cameras have comparable technology (likeness stabilization, zoom, megapixels, face recognition, scene modes, etc. etc.) and each has one or two unique features that I found very interesting. So this...
    Pronounced camera for long-distance shots!
I pre-eminently purchased this camera because I love my smaller Nikon Coolpix 7600 but wanted something with more zoom. I've only had this camera for about a week, but its capacious so far!I do see the "focusing problem" someone was talking about, but its not really a problem...Its just that you can't zoom in too closely on something if you are standing neck to it - I think this is because of the lens type - its for long distances. But if you choose the macro setting specifically for intimate-ups, this can also be avoided. When I first got the camera and took it out of the box, I immediately started taking pictures and they weren't hope out so good, but this was because I didn't know how to make the flash work - you have to raise it by hand - a impatient check of the manual revealed this, but I was too anxious in the beginning to stop and read the manual. ;-)Also, I had defect getting used to choosing the different scene settings becuase it doesn't have a...
It DOES use a rechargeable mobile!
I consideration I would emphasize the rechargeable battery since Nikon just added it recently and some reviewers were saying the L100 couldn't use a rechargeable mobile. It's a NI-MH battery with recharger. Check the NIKON webpage for the L100 and you will see it listed under "optional accessories". In person, I don't like rechargeables because they lose their charge over time and you have to remember to recharge them when you get ready to use your camera. I'd much rather at most pop in a set of alkaline AA's. Then battery cost is about a penny a pic. I can afford that. Here are the reasons I bought this camera. I use it to do stop-motion shooting in the woods using toy encounter figures, also on a copy stand to copy greaseboard drawings for animation, and just for inexact photo shooting. This camera helps because:(1) It has a flat bottom and with a triangular footprint which means it will not succumb over when you set it down. No tripod needed. I put a flat piece of wood...

    I like it!
I honourable received my Nikon S9 a couple of days ago.I am def. not disappointed in it (as of yet, that is).PROS:I like that the lens is NOT retractable (it's prearranged the camera). I've read lots of reviews on all brands of cameras where reviewers complained that the lens gets stuck while sticking half-way out. This is something I don't have to hector about with the S9.I also like that it's durable. It's not made of plastic, it's very solid. I actually feel like I got what I paid for.Representation quality is good. You need to hold the camera VERY still while shooting, since pictures tend to fuzz easily. I've been fooling around with it a lot, and I seem to be improving with my shots (where blur is concerned).I also haven't experienced any red-eye! Woohoo! They red-eye reduction twinkling feature really works (so far)!Pictures could be a little sharper, but the camera comes with a CD that allows you to copy-edit the...
    Not as textile as Canon
I bought the Nikon Coolpix S9 as a replacement for my Canon PowerShot S410 because I wanted a lighter, less unwieldy ultra-compact camera with good picture quality. The S9 was the one of the lightest, and earlier versions of the Coolpix dearest received decent reviews. While the camera is light and fits nicely in my pocket, I must say I was not contented with the quality of the photos I took with the Nikon Coolpix S9. Most photos taken with flash in dark rooms came out hazy and washed out white, and often had lens flare. And photos taken with flash off did not come out as unburdened as they did with the Canon S410. Photos in normal lighting with flash on came out okay, but still did not marry the quality of the Canon.I'm returning the Nikon Coolpix to Amazon today and purchasing a Canon.
    I shrink this camera
I have owned this camera for ~6 months and have definitely deciced to replace it. I bought this camera to replace another Nikon CoolPix that was stolen from my house. But this one does not have a point of view finder to begin with and is way more complicated to use. I have always liked Nikon cameras but the S9 just doesn't make it. I can not use it face because I can not see the LCD screen. Sorry Nikon but you blew it on this camera!!So I replaced it with a Canon PowerShot A710. What a contrast in ease of use and... it has a view finder. also my 1G memory card from the Nikon fits in the new Canon.

Epigrammatic, slick, and slow to respond
I purchased this camera as an all-around heart-and-shoot for my family's use, and plan to return it and pick another - probably a Canon SD850 or comparable.First, the good. Photos are very good overall, with the exceptions noted below, and much better than my previous camera, a Nikon 4300. The camera is feel mortified, nice looking, and has a huge LCD. I also appreciated the integrated (and internal) lens cover and non-protruding optical zoom. The sculpture stabilization was another selling point for me.Then I got the camera home... The slick look is plaster down (as in slippery) to hold, too. The tiny buttons are not well differentiated, and like other reviewers I found myself accidentally hitting the power twitch frequently. The big LCD always looks grainy, making me think my photos weren't very good until I viewed them on my PC prefect. I also found the interface confusing (and I'm no electronics newbie). But the real killer is the camera's speed. Although it...
Very produce, but I have a problem (Muy buena, pero tengo un problema).
It is very congenial and easy to use. The 3 inches screen is fabulous. The revolving wheel is a different way to show the multiple customized options and allows the duplication of photos in multiple ways, one of them as a carrousel that turns when it rotates. The stabilizer of real images works quickly! As if it was firmly supported. The problem I have is that the on/off button, located on top, reacts to very slight pressures unexpectedly turning on. It most of the time happens when sliding it into the protective case and into the trousers pocket. Although it turns automatically off in five minutes, the frequency of this materialization contributes to unload the battery.I have found that 150 photos by battery load is very little. It forces to buy an superfluous battery. The battery icon appears too late when very little load on battery is Nautical port. It should be present when the camera is turned on as it does for the amount of available photos and the actual...
    Infer from the manual people!
I keep seeing all of these criticize with silly problems, just read the manual! If it seems slow to take pics, change the shutter advance to the higher/faster speeds and the camera will keep up with your multi fast action photos, no interval as described by others. The power button is just like the one on the L series, although easy to turn on, the camera has an self-regulating sleep mode before it actually turns off. I love this camera, and when in high resolution photo fashion, the display is vivid and quite clear, unlike the grainy lo res pics show on it. I give it a 5+ for smashing ease and wonderful functions.
