Significance the Money at the New Price
I picked this camera up at the new tone down price ($150 less). For this price the camera is definately worth the money. From a idea taking standpoint the camera is great. 8-Megapixel photos that look famous, great flexibility for different sceens and a pretty quick shutter release are the highlights. The camera does have some trouble focusing in dark situations especially if you have zoomed in and the object is too far away.The only real can of worms I encountered is setting up the wi-fi feature. I consider myself pretty computer literate, but this stumped me for some time. A call to Nikon was pleasant but a scrap of time. The biggest problem you will run into is if you have Firewall-Enabled in XP or XP Pro. You have to look close but on page 136 of the instructions there is a little note about Port settings if you use a firewall (and who doesn't?). By the way, the Nikon rep was clueless when I told him it worked with firewall off but wouldn't with firewall on. He...

Nikon P1 Could Be Well-advised
I am a consummate camera rub having been in photography since the mid 1970s. I have used many different cameras (Canons, Pentaxes, Olympuses, Kodaks, Polariods, an Agfa, even had a Minolta for a shortened time, yuck!) and shot tens of thousands of photos all over the world. In 2003, I retired my T-50 and EOS 650 and stepped into the digital happy with a Canon "Powershot" S-50. (It has been a delight not having to fumble with film while having the province to take 1000s of shots on a 1.0GB card!)The S-50 broke in Nov. 05 (with shot copy 4000 on Waikiki Beach). For Christmas my wife gave me the P1 (my first, ever, Nikon). To era, I've taken about 1500 photos with it.The Nikon P1 "Coolpix" is handy. The 8.0 megapixels and 3.5 zoom are capital (and the reasons for the P1's purchase). It fits in a pocket comfortably. It is light weight and not cumbersome to engage in. Vast camera with no wifi issues
I find the Nikon P1 to be a dedicated point a shoot camera. I had no problems with it right out of the box. I have taken many well developed pictures and I'm more then in seventh heaven with it.This is a point and shoot camera so you do give up full manual control. But there is a variety of features to let you play around and be ingenious to a certain extent.I've gone through most the settings and have had very little to complain about. The only pictures that have not turned out are ones captivated with very little light. This issue can be attributed to user error not camera error. For norm taking a night picture with a large shutter time by hand caused some blur (create that).I have seen a little noise at ISO 400 when my focus is far away and there is very little light but nothing numerous then any other camera. You can still get some really nice night pictures if you use a tripod and the correct settings even sundown shot mood will produce decent results...

Quite Necessary
You don't scarceness to use up all your battery power transferring images to your PC, so this accessory is fantastic. It works for five different Nikon cameras and will come to someone's rescue you a fortune in batteries and a lot of time waiting for batteries to recharge. For the price, it's a bargain!

Exquisite Pictures, Great Camera
I have had this camera for almost 6 months and have never had any complaints. It is a in reality universal camera that will take beautiful pictures in a wide range of settings.I saw that some people left side reviews about the camera being having blurry pictures and I have not had this issue at all, even without a tripod. (They must have mistakenly reset some of the settings) The colors be in print out beautifully. The settings are logical and easy to use, but I still recommend reading the instructions. With this camera, and conspiratory how it works, you can take beautiful, professional-looking photographs.I do recommend investing in a good team of batteries, but this is true with all digital cameras these days. As the cameras get more powerful they need more power and I have not seen any new camera out there that you can get more than 30-40 pictures on a uniform pair of alkaline batteries. And the type of memory card you use makes a BIG difference in the time between shots,...
superior pictures just need to outfit it right - oh, and tough
A-one pictures, easy, intuitive interface, and a great 5X zoom that really makes the dissension compared to 3X or even 3.5X are all the things I really like about this camera. There are some negative reviews on this by-product but I would counter with this: accept the fact that AA Lithiums are the only way to go and spring for a solid, dependable, ultra-shrill speed SD card and you'll be fine and happy. The LCD screen is the view finder and I have no problems with it-- I subsist in Phoenix and it is very, very, bright here to say the least. I have taken over 200 pictures with the camera on one set of batteries, so far, and it's been four days since I've had the camera. I use the Energizer Lithium AA's (are there any others?). For an SD plan I use the SanDisk Ultra II 1 Gig (currently like $50 on Amazon) and the card is significantly faster than the Lexar I bought at Sam's. If you don't be enamoured of to know about the art of photography and you don't like to read manuals, don't buy this camera and you can stop reading principal here. Otherwise, read on.I can take any camera and take bad shots with it. But if I use most modern cameras to their full potential, I tend to end up with great shots. By that I miserly using correct focus, exposure compensation when necessary, and selecting the proper ISO, shutter hightail it, and aperture for the situation. Those are just the basics. There are also other adjustments and tweaks like Face Detection, D-Lighting (Nikon's title for bringing out more detail from dark areas of the photo), white balance, etc..Essentially, if you know how to use all those things (and your camera lets you correct them yourself), you can end up with some pretty great shots from any camera. You can get creative in ways that auto-only cameras will not let. Some people end up with blurry shots because they don't know how to take...
Undistinguished Image Quality, some quirks
I tried this camera this week, and found myself returning it within a combine days. In all honesty, I had read good things and I had hoped perhaps this would serve me as a bridge camera between my Canon G9 and my dSLR camera.First, it is nicely made, and feels right in the hand. As a pretty cheap point-and-shoot camera, the Nikon Coolpix S550 is a pretty neat piece of arms. It's certainly not a high-end DSLR, but it's good at what it does, and it offers some nice pluses over other cameras in its sacrifice range.The good:-5x optical zoom is very good for a little camera like this, and is tops in this camera's elegance. I would like to remind readers that "digital zoom" really just crops out part of a look-alike to make it look bigger in the viewfinder while destroying actual shot quality, so please disdain the "digital zoom" on this or any camera.-10megapixel resolution is pretty phenominal, principally in this camera's price range, especially coupled with the 5x zoom. I wrote a freeware java program for my phone to take time lapse. I’m inevitable there are time-lapse apps for the iphone as well. My ultra reasonable Samsung HB something or other has time lapse. It’s CMOS sensored which washes out the CV, when using it normally, but I’m tickled pink I have it. It does 10mp stills. Most possibly not on a cheap camera. Most upper level cameras, and some high end point and discharge cameras are equipped this way but most likely not this one.
