Solid, attractive construction. Simple to use, with little to no chance of moving the curious adjustment at the wrong time. Easy to set up, easy to tighten just where you want it, a excellent piece of equipment. I use this on a set of Manfrotto 055XWNB legs, for a reasonably affordable mounting system. If I were to go through more money, I'd go for better legs. I would leave the head as-is regardless of what legs I purchased. The only caveat on the cut off is the quick-release system. I have both Really Right Stuff and standard Arca-Swiss plates. The RRS plates are fractionally wider than the A-S quintessence, and as a result I need to do a bit of adjustment screw spinning when moving between some of my pieces of equipment if I longing to do the "slide in from the end" mounting technique. Not an issue if I'm fully opening the clamp to do a drop-in mount. This isn't a big extent, but I may have purchased the screw-clamp model (for +/- $10 less)... Apart from ballhead, highly recommended This ballhead is a joy to use. I've had it while shooting as a hobbyist, and then later as a virtuoso. The typical shoot involves setting the resistance based on the weight of the camera and lens. It's devoted to do based on feel, takes less than 10 seconds on average to get it perfect. After the resistance is set I can reframe as needed without needing to take advantage of land the knobs. It's an eye opener the first time you use a high quality ballhead. Something I really liked about the dominant knob is that the resistance scale is free floating, meaning you can set how much resistance '10' represents on the raise. It's handy to have if your camera is extra light or extra heavy. A 10 for my camera can imitate the same resistance to movement as a 10 for yours, once the scale is adjusted. On a ballhead without this adjustment, if you have a heavy camera you can go lifetime the highest number on the scale trying to get the resistance just right, and then the numbers barely look... Major product - totally worth it. I have had the Arca Swiss Z1 SP for over 3 years now. It has served me well and has never let me down in all this even so. I used it during several international trips across the world and when coupled with my Gitzos (Series 3 and 5 from their systematic trade) has delivered critically sharp images, without fail. It is true that the manufacturer of Arca Swiss mat is pretty reclusive and don't have even a viable website, but I simply cannot find fault with the product and have never needed any friendly of service on it. |

The Sidekick puts a side anxiety on the ballhead it's used with, loading the weight of the camera, Sidekick and a super-telephoto lens on the ballhead with the font flipped over 90-degrees. The Sidekick has vertical panning bearings, but no horizontal panning r, so it relies on the panning function of the ballhead to provide horizontal gimbal action. Hence, the ballhead must be competent and have a smooth horizontal panning functions. The Z1 is excellent for this use, offering very high load understanding and a smooth panning function separate from the ballhead. When the Sidekick is mounted there's no play in any plane. I also use the Z1 for awesome photography and macro. One important need was for me to switch from a body with a super-tele lens to another band with a wide angle lens in just a few seconds. That's easy to do with the Arca-Swiss/Sidekick combination. I well-grounded slip off the... Everything I wanted in a tripod forefront completely I was primarily a " hand held" photographer until I injured my arm last year. I've had to switch to being a tripod user and it hasn't been an undemanding transition. I got my tripod, but couldn't make up my mind about a head. I researched and asked questions of my photographer friends for a brace months before buying this tripod head. I went back and forth between the top brands - Kirk, Quite Right stuff and this one. I'm not a rich person by any means and to me, this was a big purchase, so I wanted to get it right the first dated so I wouldn't be wishing I had gotten a different head a year from now. Currently I use a Canon Eos Rebel XTi. (and a Canon Elan photograph camera) The heaviest lenses I have are my 100mm macro and my 28 - 135mm so really most any head would do, BUT, if things go as programmed, I want to upgrade to a Canon 5D next year, and hope to add a 400mm lens to my bag, so I wanted a rocker that would handle that as well as what I have now. This one should do that without a... |

The first was the basic head that came on a cheap tripod that I got when I was a teenager and was really meant to be in use accustomed to with a video camera. The next time around (about 15 years ago) I purchased a Bogen 3021 tripod and what I dream would be a very flexible (how can you go wrong with a name like that). The tripod was great and the head was incredibly bendable for setting up for a shot and taking the picture. However, it was not great for shooting anything moving, because It wasn't relaxing to track things with the design of the head and it tended to move a bit or settle while tightening it in position. Years afterwards I started reading about tripod heads and specifically pill heads. After taking a year to decide I bought this one, which I've now owned... The kindest head in the world Altogether irreplaceable item for anybody with large (and heavy) telephoto lenses. Once set it does not move, purpose...stays solid. Excellent product |

Arca Swiss Quick Release Plate 1/4" - Universal - (80mm long x 60mm Wide - 3.15 x 2.35")
DescriptionCustomer ReviewsWell Made and Looks Delicate but Still a Universal PlateThere isn't much to say about a general quick release plate so I'll put a few bullets on what what matters most IMHO. Hopefully it will helps some peer Amazonians. - Black anodized metal plate, virtually no finish imperfections and a worthy gloss - Universal so no curved "lip" set against the battery grip to prevent rotation of body in portrayal mode. The alternative is to get an RRS L bracket for almost 4 times the cost. - I bought one last year and another one lawful last week. New plates now include a hex key for use with 1/4in screw. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on how you look at it. Having a hex key allows you to tighten tightly without having to use a quarter or nickel for example. However, lets say you have to swap camera body and are somewhere in the division and do not have the hex key with you this could be a problem. A coin likely will be much easier to find than a hex key. - Manufactured in France if this matters to... |
