Can't course it for the price
The Arca-Swiss model quick release system has become all but standard within the photographic world, particularly for nature photographers who want to mount and unmount lenses, macro rails, etc., in a hurry while in the field. Equipping all of one's cog-wheel with plates or clamps to work within this system can become quite expensive. It is wonderful to see that a low-cost but still quite well-made and tedious-duty Arca-style clamp is now available from Desmond. I purchased one of these clamps in order to change over a Manfrotto/Bogen type tripod head to work with lenses and cameras that use Arca-style plates. It works exceptional! I will likely get another one to fit a window mount.That the small bubble level is not easily visible once a the same of gear is mounted on the clamp is a small drawback, but for my purposes it really is not important. Inclusive, this little Desmond clamp does the job for half the cost or less of similar clamps made by other companies.

Affordable Petulant Release
There are a legions of companies that produce quick release clamps that are compatible with the arca-swiss dove-tail. These can be very up-market. I have them from a top manufacturer and use it all the time for my tripod and L-bracket that stays permanently on my camera.This quick release was for the that I purchased. I needed a dexterous release to put on one end of the Long Lens Support. This attachment makes it easy for me to connect the covet lens support to my L-bracket on my camera.This was an inexpensive quick release but it's well made - all aluminum, and nicely smooth in black. Unadulterated build, wish the bubble level were more visible
Seems truly well-machined. Flat and smooth bottom so it went perfectly onto my monopod top (I don't need a tripod for a monopod). Is Arca Swiss in accord though without safety mechanism. This particular listing does not come with the plate, though the one I got from OEC directly, did descend upon with one (but at a higher price, naturally). OEC was pretty fast, and I would definitely buy from them again should the need arise.

A fine ball head at a reasonable price
I sweetheart this thing. This is the second ball head I have owned and the nicest. The knobs are nicely machined and purpose with precision. It handles a heavy weight and stays in place. It has 3 bubble levels to aid in keeping the perspective straight. It is also able to pan which eliminates the need for a separate pan head. This is an excellent starting setup.

The value opportunity for ball hesads
As at the start a nature and landscape photographer, I was looking for a ball head that would support my various lenses and conduct well in the field. When reading what well known and proobably well paid photographers were using for their tripod head, I was shocked to learn how precious they could be. The cost of one of the most popular heads could run as high as $400 or more. I looked at the giotto MH-1000 because it would fit my requirements and not break the bank. I was surprised at how well it performed. It worked flawlessly, yet costing a fraction of what equivalent ball heads were selling for. It also came with an arca-swiss quick release plate which meant I could use trimmings such as the kirk L-bracket which allowed for quicker and more stable withching between vertical and horizontal aspects. Now I also have more things to buy for my head because of the arca-swiss picture. I wholehearedly recommend this head as a value alternative to the kirks and arca-swiss...
Steadfast performer
I recently purchased this bit head from the Adorama store in NYC. First of all the people at Adorama were very helpful and knowledgeable. When I listed my requirements for a bit head (good quality, fluid movement, bubble levels, quick release, and the proficiency to hold over 10lbs), I was given four different ball heads to review. Two of them were Adorama's own brand and then two Giottos (one being this one). It took me only a few minutes to "motion" with the 1000-652 and I knew this was the ball head for me. The movement is silky smooth and secure when tightened down. The shambles marks on the base are easy to read. The quick release is secure when fastened to the pill head. I also like the way it looks with my carbon fiber tripod which is black. :)

Inimitable for what it is supposed to do

The ballhead can handle the 11 pounds this combo claims but the tripod doenst at some angles/positions. The most eminent is to UNDERSTAND that if you buy this combo it doesnt mean that it will replace your regular (big) tripod. This tripod works wonderfull if you "hug" something with the legs. It also works stupendous for macro... as you can check in my video. Wondrous tripod for SLR cameras

Even with the lens fully extended the camera doesn't gyration or drop down. The tripod is also very light weight which makes it ideal for travel. The only CON of the product is that the legs are a bit dogged and makes it a bit hard to wrap the legs around an structure. If you can live with that this is the best travel tripod for slr users

At the last moment, a Gorillapod that will hold up my camera - usually
Gorillapods are matchless, but you need one thats one-model stiffer than what Joby says. For example, get this one if you have a D300, and dont envision it to hold it up very well with a 600mm/2.8 lens on it. But it will hold it up with medium size lenses. My former one, one model down, was not strong enough for me to be comfortable putting a D300 on with anything heavier than the 18-200 mounted. Hardly be careful - its easy to dump your camera with this thing if you're not.

Very Impressed
Deliberation that coming from a cheaper manufacturer that these arca swiss imitations would be sub-standard. NOT TRUE!! I attached this bracket easily to my Giottos MH 1000 ballhead and i could not be more satisfied. The clamp is very smooth but with no slack or cause trouble in its operation. The small thumbscrew adjusts the clamping force which is rock solid with their equivalent L-Bracket. When fully open the L-Bracket easily drops in and there is no need to slide it in sidelong. I like the safety lock on the QR clamp handle that is a joy to operate because of how smooth it works. I cleaned off the damp grease that it came with and re-lubricated with spray silicone to keep dust to a minimum. The onboard square seems accurate and works far better that the sluggish ones i had on my previous Giottos QR clamp. All in all an not counting buy for those that see no need to spend >$100 on these types of accessories.

Intended by amateurs for photo amateurs
Don't wait for this gimbal to compete with Wimberley or other well designed products. It's principal feature is low cost. The inner combine lacks torsional stiffness introducing about a 5 Hz pan resonance with a Canon 300mm f/2.8 lens. This is in reality distracting. It is just barely damped by the lens stabilization system.Locking knobs extremely don't lock the lens in place. This isn't so much of a problem taking pictures with a balanced gimbal care but really makes carrying the lens/tripod hard. Put the lens over your shoulder, hold the tripod, a unite steps later the whole thing is off your shoulder with the lens aligned with the tripod. This is a real irritation and disposed to a risk for lens/camera...

For any submit/object requiring precise placement and framing a gear head is imperative, and this head is currently the unsurpassed value in the market for 35mm camera users. Such subjects/objects include product, rations, interior, architectural, and some portraits (location/life style). Other types of photography including view, sports, and events might benefit more from other types of heads such as ball heads or none at all. The Manfrotto 410 offers full master of each axis independently of the other axis. Hence, the head allows for rotation, and forward and side tilting. Manfrotto 410 Geared Head
I've owned this head for several years. It is built like a tank and makes it undemanding to achieve fine adjustments. I often mount a telescope on it atop a Bogen 475 tripod. The only downside for photography is in making nimble camera reorientations: While it has a quick release in each axis, re-pointing is not as quick and intuitive as with a bit mount. All-in-all an excellent piece of equipment with a variety of uses when paired with a good tripod.

Tremendous Product
There are alot of reviews out for this head if you look around. For the most part they are all beneficial. This is a great head. Its not the lightest head. In fact, its really heavy, but if you want a head that isn't going to move then this is what you want. This tripod head will mug quite a bit and not budge. Its excellent for macro work. Just pair it up with a nice scold, and you will be all set. The knobs are easy to move, and if you need to make any major adjustments the spring loaded knobs save and let you spin the axis freely. If you need something to hike or travel with, you need to look somewhere else. Bottom score, this is an excellent value. You won't be disappointed.
