    The one to rout!
This is an important product. Solid, attractive construction. Simple to use, with little to no chance of moving the infelicitous adjustment at the wrong time. Easy to set up, easy to tighten just where you want it, a enjoyable piece of equipment.I use this on a set of Manfrotto 055XWNB legs, for a reasonably affordable mounting system. If I were to waste more money, I'd go for better legs. I would leave the head as-is regardless of what legs I purchased. The only caveat on the head is the perceptive-release system. I have both Really Right Stuff and standard Arca-Swiss plates. The RRS plates are fractionally wider than the A-S class, and as a result I need to do a bit of adjustment screw spinning when moving between some of my pieces of equipment if I destitution to do the "slide in from the end" mounting technique. Not an issue if I'm fully opening the clamp to do a drop-in mount. This isn't a big contract, but I may have purchased the screw-clamp model (for +/- $10 less) had I...
    A- ballhead, highly recommended
This ballhead is a joy to use. I've had it while shooting as a hobbyist, and then later as a maven. The typical shoot involves setting the resistance based on the weight of the camera and lens. It's close on to do based on feel, takes less than 10 seconds on average to get it perfect. After the resistance is set I can reframe as needed without needing to employ the knobs. It's an eye opener the first time you use a high quality ballhead.Something I really liked about the mains knob is that the resistance scale is free floating, meaning you can set how much resistance '10' represents on the rank. It's handy to have if your camera is extra light or extra heavy. A 10 for my camera can depict oneself the same resistance to movement as a 10 for yours, once the scale is adjusted. On a ballhead without this adjustment, if you have a heavy camera you can go quondam the highest number on the scale trying to get the resistance just right, and then the numbers impartial look...
Enthusiastic product - totally worth it.
I have had the Arca Swiss Z1 SP for over 3 years now. It has served me well and has never let me down in all this stretch. I used it during several international trips across the world and when coupled with my Gitzos (Series 3 and 5 from their systematic parentage) has delivered critically sharp images, without fail.It is true that the manufacturer of Arca Swiss equipment is dulcet reclusive and don't have even a viable website, but I simply cannot find fault with the product and have never needed any kind of work on it.

    Weather-beaten, smooth ballhead
I bought the Arca-Swiss Z1 ballhead to use in conjunction with the Wimberley Sidekick gimbal. The Sidekick puts a side fill on the ballhead it's used with, loading the weight of the camera, Sidekick and a super-telephoto lens on the ballhead with the head flipped over 90-degrees. The Sidekick has vertical panning bearings, but no supine panning function, so it relies on the panning function of the ballhead to provide horizontal gimbal performance. Hence, the ballhead must be strong and have a smooth horizontal panning functions. The Z1 is excellent for this use, offering very elated load capacity and a smooth panning function separate from the ballhead. When the Sidekick is mounted there's no carouse in any plane.I also use the Z1 for scenic photography and macro. One important need was for me to switch from a body with a wonderful-tele lens to another body with a wide angle lens in just a few seconds. That's serenely to do with the Arca-Swiss/Sidekick combination. I just slip off the...
Everything I wanted in a tripod head
I was most of all a " hand held" photographer until I injured my arm last year. I've had to switch to being a tripod user and it hasn't been an weak transition. I got my tripod, but couldn't make up my mind about a head. I researched and asked questions of my photographer friends for a combine months before buying this tripod head. I went back and forth between the top brands - Kirk, Really Proper stuff and this one. I'm not a rich person by any means and to me, this was a big purchase, so I wanted to get it right the first time so I wouldn't be wishing I had gotten a novel head a year from now. Currently I use a Canon Eos Rebel XTi. (and a Canon Elan film camera) The heaviest lenses I have are my 100mm macro and my 28 - 135mm so absolutely most any head would do, BUT, if things go as planned, I want to upgrade to a Canon 5D next year, and hope to add a 400mm lens to my bag, so I wanted a head that would tackle that as well as what I have now. This one should do that without a...

    It works
I purchased this to use with my ([...])camera slab; it allows me to use my current tripod with the base w/o having to install the QR plate each time I fancy to use the tripod. It's inexpensive, but holds my Canon T2i securely, even with a 50-200mm zoom lens. I can nick c accomplish the tripod w/ camera attached w/ no fear of the camera falling off.The only negative I have is that the size adapter (that allows this to be unavailable to a QR plate or other 1/4-20 screw) is very weak. I just broke mine, but was planning on getting the established bolt to attache the clap directly to my tripod head, removing the current QR system.
Can't overcome it for the price
The Arca-Swiss font quick release system has become all but standard within the photographic world, particularly for nature photographers who for to mount and unmount lenses, macro rails, etc., in a hurry while in the field. Equipping all of one's cog-wheel with plates or clamps to work within this system can become quite expensive. It is wonderful to see that a low-cost but still quite well-made and massy-duty Arca-style clamp is now available from Desmond. I purchased one of these clamps in order to catechumen a Manfrotto/Bogen type tripod head to work with lenses and cameras that use Arca-style plates. It works big! I will likely get another one to fit a window mount. That the small bubble level is not easily visible once a vent one's spleen of gear is mounted on the clamp is a small drawback, but for my purposes it really is not important. Total, this little Desmond clamp does the job for half the cost or less of similar clamps made by other companies.
    Affordable Facile Release
There are a slew of companies that produce quick release clamps that are compatible with the arca-swiss dove-tail. These can be very precious. I have them from a top manufacturer and use it all the time for my tripod and L-bracket that stays permanently on my camera. This quick saving was for the that I purchased. I needed a quick release to put on one end of the Long Lens Support. This attachment makes it agreeable for me to connect the long lens support to my L-bracket on my camera. This was an inexpensive quick remission but it's well made - all aluminum, and nicely finished in black. I prefer my lever-operated version from another fabricator for frequent use on my tripod (cost 7 times as much) but this is perfect for my needs - sturdy, quick, and...
