Looking at its price, you won't find any better
**UPDATE 12/4/11** Misused the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars given its price drop and the picture quality corresponding to to its price. My only real gripe with the T3 is its lack of a rubberized handgrip. I don't expect posh materials at this cost point but some surface providing a better grip would have been nice. One important point though is that because of the materials hardened, it makes the camera extremely light-weight (although you will find with heavier lenses it will feel out of up somewhat). However, despite the lack of a rubberized handgrip, you will find it hard to dislike this camera. And it I call to mind a consider it provides an overall better and more straight-forward shooting experience than thte Nikon D3100.The rudder are pretty straight-forward on this camera. And I always like Canon's menu system, very intuitive. It has quantity of auto controls for newbie photographers but of course has a full manual suite of controls so it's effect for students or folks in...
    Abundant bang for the buck
I regard as the camera is an amazing buy for the money. I was able to unpack the contents & begin shooting ethical pictures IMMEDIATELY, using the fully automatic settings & the included partially charged freestyle. You will however, need to supply an SD Card as this is not included, not even a small one. The menu was a LITTLE confusing at first, but I swiftly got the gist of things and am taking good pictures with the camera. Having used the full-van settings and just dabbling with the advanced settings, I'm very pleased with the purchase and I think anyone who is either new to DSLR cameras or who doesn't pauperism to spend over $1000 for a 'pro' or 'prosumer' DSLR will also be very happy with it right out of the box... or ANY of the T series cameras for that sum. If you're going to be shooting in RAW (or like I do in RAW+L) I recommend getting AT LEAST a 16GB card, if not a 32GB card. The included freestyle is a champ. It lasts a good long time & charges quickly...
    Weakness it!
I purchased this camera a few generation ago and I've had nothing but FUN with it! Aside from my simple Kodak Easyshare point and shoot, I had a Canon EOS Elan 7 (35mm) and had been unsatisfying to switch it over to Digital for several years. The longer I waited, the better the camera's got and more affordable they became. I decided on the Canon T3 mostly because of the affordable fee. (Nearly 1/2 of the T3i) I felt like I was getting a very good value for my money. I was repay! This camera takes amazing photo's! Clear, crisp, true feel embarrassed. It's very easy to use, right out of the box. Fit's all my old lenses and the remote from the Elan 7 All the advanced manual settings I could thirst topped with the instant gratification of seeing how the settings affect the picture instantly. This camera allows you to use white-hot screen shooting which so many people like these days and it takes HD video. The 12 megapixels is prodigality even...

    Smashing Starter Camera
Looking over several cameras and choosing one for someone who has outgrown go out of one's way to and shoots, I came back to the Nikon D3000. By no means will this model blow away the familiarized photographer, however it does cover the basics and more. We picked it up and tried it out over the weekend. First time DSLR users will lift the Guide Mode. It literally walked us through different shoot scenarios via the fixed 3" LCD filter. An excellent tool, its step by step instructions allowed my niece to move from the operating information sheet in no time. After a few more runs, I am sure that she will feel quite comfortable shooting in the manual form. The quick shutter release was a nice surprise. Upon completing two days of shooting with the Nikon D3000, I walked to another place impressed. In manual mode, indoor shots were a balanced and perfect mix of shadow and go red. As usual with shooting in low light, noise will make an appearance. However this system can be tweaked to deliver some...
    Noteworthy first DSLR
My believable old point-and-shoot camera (one of the Canon PowerShot series) had served me faithfully, but I was rising frustrated with its limitations. It seemed SO slow -- I was always missing great shots of my kids. The low-insignificant performance was not particularly good. And I knew if I ever wanted to take more than basic family snapshots, I was accepted to need to bite the bullet and buy a DSLR. But they seemed so intimidating! After doing a ton of research online and irksome out my sister-in-law's slightly older Nikon D40, I settled on the new D3000. And I love it! It actually is easier to use than I could've imagined, and the shots I've gotten so far are amazing. I have no photographic training, but I am really enchanted with the pictures I've been getting so far. I never could have imagined there would be SUCH a huge difference. I've actually gotten -sharp- pictures of my toddler in proposal, rather than just kid-shaped blurs! I took it to a local park last night for a couple...
Wonderful user friendly beginner camera with great AF system and image quality
Nikon D3000 is Nikon learner / entry level camera. It replaces Nikon D60. There are three major upgrade of D3000 from D60. There are 11 Sedan focus system with dynamic tracking and 3D tracking. This AF system is the same as Nikon mid-range/enthusiast camera, D90. Also, the LCD sort out has been enlarged to 3 inches from 2.5 inches. However, the screen resolution remains the same at 230,000 dots. Also new is the Sign mode, this new mode is working as your tutor on basic photography. It helps you set up your camera, in the same period, it tells you about basic photography setting and concepts. Other than that, everything looks the same, buttons, placement, viewfinder and likeness quality/resolution. It is an average size for beginner DSLR camera. But if you are coming from solid camera, you might a bit surprise of the size. On the other hand, if you are coming from advanced DSLR cameras, then you will know this camera is compact and light. Nikon D3000 has a thumb...

Canon REBEL XS totally a beautiful experience
I used up several weeks reviewing the REBEL XS vs it's many 10 MP adversaries, I even checked it against the ultra zooms as I wanted the ease of use of video as well, but too many good things stood out with this camera and so I decided upon it. I bought the rebel XS and after existence of dirt testing this camera I've found it a beautiful experience. Now I'm a professional videographer fixed devoted to to a tv station in Trinidad & Tobago, my purpose for this camera was the need for a quick sharp still by no means camera that would be impressive under low light and still capture impressive portrait shots to be used for my website and for at liberty prints. I didn't want to shell out over a $1000. US for a camera body. What is tagged by Canon is place: The full auto mode is truly accurate and gives excellent shots always, it makes photography so down-to-earth for a beginner or intermediate. The portrait mode isn't blurry, images are clean, nicely toned, barring in quality for large...
Choicest Affordable DSLR (Canon XS vs. Olympus E-510 or Nikon D40/60)
I lack to save you the time and uncertainty in choosing the best affordable DSLR. For those considering the Canon EOS Apostate XS, the Olympus E-510 or the Nikon D40 / D40x / D60, I believe the Canon XS is the first-rate choice. Also, at the price difference between the XS and the SXi ($150-200 as of December '08), the XS is an excellent alternative--both take literally the same high quality pictures, save the 2MP difference, which is negligible at the end. Please note that the XS's new lens kit comes with the control superiors quality EFS 18-55 Image Stabilization lens (they are better engineered); and that Canon is contribution nowadays generous rebates on telephoto lenses when coupled with the purchase of the XS (I bought mine with the entrance-level Canon EF 75-300mm III lens with a generous instant Canon rebate. Don't buy from anybody unheard-of from B&H Photo, directly from Amazon, Adorama, Buydig/Beach Camera; stay to another place from Broadway Photo and TriState). Canons are popular for the excellent...
    Other than starter DSLR
This survey is geared toward complete newbies (such as myself) who are coming from the point-and-shoot world. I purchased this camera due to a budget necessity and after reading numerous reviews. For what you features you get, you simply cannot beat the price for an entry unchanging DSLR camera. You may have looked at the XSI (as I have) and have been tempted to put forth the extra $100 or so to get that one. If you get down to the nitty doughty between the specs of the XS and XSI, you'll find that they are very minimally different, and more importantly, those "extra" features will have no bearing on you as a DSLR newbie. This XS (1000D) epitome is oft overlooked because so many are praising its "bigger brother" the XSI. But take a look at a side-by-side comparison and you'll notice not much has been scaled back for this XS. Liberate that extra money for better glass. I would even be willing to speculate that a future firmware manumit will address some of these...

    Important Price Brings Upgraded Features
I purchased this camera from QVC (it was their remarkable value for that day) on their easy pay plan. I began using this camera out of the box, on its auto settings indoors; it takes some very formidable photos. I was happy to see that my min pin didnt suffer the usual "I am a vicious red eyed dog" look. To juxtapose the usefulness of the flash, I took photos in absolute darkness and then used the flash. It was matchless to see that the flash really did its thing without the great wash out effect. The flash worked justified as well in regular settings that required it. I used the other features for the photos I am going to describe in this paragraph. I calling in the buildings behind the World Trade Center so taking pictures of the progress from our office is amusing. On this camera, the pictures are the kind that everyone who visits wishes they could take from this view. I had no light "bounce back" from the several floors of newly installed windows on the Scope Tower...
    Superb camera with great features
I affection this camera. I bought it because it has an old school view finder and the display. Most of the cameras I have looked at have gone to a different place from having a view finder. I have used many different cameras and on bright day it is very hard to see the parade and line up a shot without a view finder. It is very easy to switch between the view finder and the publicize. It takes fantastic pictures and you can use rechargeable batteries if you want. Another thing that is great about this camera is the answer time between pictures. My old camera took 10 seconds before I could snap another shot. This camera is almost instantaneous.
    Top-hole Deal, Fabulous Camera
This camera takes wonderful pictures, and the pop-up flash works fantastic even in total darkness. Pictures are crisp and disburden, and the manual settings are great for advanced photographers. The editing software in the camera is considerate too so you can crop, rotate or resize your photos before uploading them, as well as saving them to their own albums for later. I would very effectively recommend this camera to anyone who wants to take thousands of casual everyday pictures, or step it up a score and take professional grade photos.

A devoted starter camera if you want better pics than a point and shoot.
Like many other reviewers I am not a veteran photographer, and this is my first digital camera. I do like taking pictures though and I've dealt with a few nice film cameras and some comfortably Fujifilm cameras (a P&S, 'bridge camera' and a DSLR) and I feel like this camera is most assuredly worth the price. The X500 is a bridge camera, almost a SLR and almost a point and shoot. But it boasts some able specs and features that you cannot find anywhere in this price range. Pros. The 16 megapixel sensor is influential. Most entry level cameras of any type and brand start off at about 12 MP right now. GE has this ideal at 16. I think the other 16 MP cameras are over twice the price of this one. You can see the difference when you zoom in on your computer, the definition is apparent. The zoom on the X500 is awesome. This camera has 15X optical zoom and along with digital zoom (digital zoom takes to a different place image quality as you zoom in so just keep that in mind when using it) it has a...
    Nightmarish Bridge Camera ^-^
Like most residents who are purchasing this camera, I have little or no experience in photography. Although I've dabbled in the arts of Skype and agile pics using my phone, this GE bridge camera is hardly in the same tier. So many features.. so barely time.. Pros: > Superb picture quality for the price > Myriad of features filled to the gunwales in one > Super ZOOM to the rescue! > Build quality feels legit (ergo, a actual, solid camera rather than a cheap toy) I'll go more in depth with the features. My favorite feature is the HDR conversion of photos. After you take a photo, you go to the photo you upright took by hitting the > (play) button. Then hit menu and go all the way down. There's an option called "HDR" which converts your photo to "Favourable Dynamic Range" quality. Simply put, it enhances the colors of the photo, making it brighter and more colourful. Another great feature is smile detection. Press the little smiling button face next to the "waving hand" (that's...
Rehashing along with Tips for your new GE x500
Magazine: My last two digital cameras have been point & shoot Kodak's and it took so long for the camera to reset in between pictures I was missing spot after shot. Plus, the Kodak's didn't have any kind of picture stabilization so half the pictures came out unfocused. With that said, I was in the market for a different brand of camera.I was considering the Nikon L120 but honestly didn't want to shell out that kind of money so I kept putting the purchase off. Then I came across this GE x500 with its schedule of equally good features, great reviews and incredible price. I didn't even identify GE made cameras so I have to say I was a bit leery about how good it would be compared to SLR style cameras with name recognition but I went for it and it has ended up being the proper camera for my picture taking needs (vacations, special occasions, holidays, parties, pets, periodic on line classified ad or auction).TIPS: I haven't had the camera that long and with all the...

    By far the first choice!
For anyone looking at getting a respectable, mid-level point-and-shoot with the look and feel of an SLR, the Nikon Coolpix L120 is by far the nicest choice, even with its few shortcomings! As a semi-professional photographer who primarily shoots film (but is slowly converting to digital) I always have kept at least a digital P&S camera with me to get those "adroit" shots that I can't get because of the time involved in setting up the shot in an SLR. My previous camera, the Minolta DiMAGE S414 had been getting protracted in the tooth and was starting to glitch. A friend gave me his Nikon Coolpix E5200 and I was pronto hooked on Nikon's legendary imaging quality. However, the 5-megapixel sensor in the Coolpix E5200 was excluding of what I truly needed, so the same friend who gave me the E5200 also let me try out his Coolpix L110. I was blown in a different place with how well the photos turned out! In my quest to buy my own Coolpix L110, I had heard back in February that Nikon was releasing the Coolpix...
A solid Thespian with some minor quirks
I purchased the Nikon L120 about a month ago in preparation for a plunge we were taking to California. Although I was impressed by several of the features I read about, such as the extended zoom and pseudo-dslr delineation, I still had some concerns about a couple of features such as the complaints about focusing and lack of manual controls. After shooting about 200 pictures, I am timely to report that I will be keeping the camera. I'll address my concerns about the reported concerns others spoken. First was the concern over focus. At one point, the camera was having trouble focusing on a shot of the sea and scope. Everything was blurry and only items within 20-30 ft. would be in focus. I tried several different modes, including prospect and beach, but it did not cure the problem. At that point, I decided to just turn it off and turn it back on and that solved the dilemma. There must be some issue with the algorithms which pick certain items to focus, but the old...
Loved it - but returned it
Bought this camera and loved the still of operation and picture quality. I also have the Panasonic DMC-FZ35, which is VERY complicated. I needed something simpler. I practised to use this Nikon after only 1 hour of reading the manual (compared to months still trying to figure out the Panasonic). Was gentle getting great pictures. Smile detection and Pet mode worked terrific. Unfortunately, my outstanding reason for this type of hybrid camera, is for the convenience of camera and HD video in one unit. Video status on this unit is well below average. I compared it to my Panasonic - no comparison. The Panasonic's video was smooth and absolve, the Nikon - grainy and jerky. I really wanted to keep this camera for it's ease of use and picture value, but the poor video quality ultimately caused me to return it. Until I find an easy to use camera with tolerable picture and video, I'll continue with the months of trying to figure out the Panasonic. PROS: Repose of use, great pictures, smile...
